We have a new 1SG and new commander. The 1SG noticed one day that only 5 people in the whole company showed up to PT. Now he put out to all the platoon Sergeants that everyone must show up to PT at either the 0530 formation or the 1600 formation.

However, my section is the only one in the hospital that has a 1600-0000 shift. I am being told by my first line that the 1SG says that I have to be at the morning formation, no exceptions.

I don’t want to sound like I’m whining but at the same time it’s unfortunate that I have to explain to myself as to why this isn’t right.

As a junior enlisted I do feel stuck.

How do I bring this issue up and solve this effectively and professionally?
Also: Do you know of any Army Regulations that can support anything?

You better grow a backbone and get use to it. Four to five hours of sleep? Develop better time management skills or something but either way. If you can’t function on four to five hours of sleep, you definitely made a bad career choice.

I see it this way. You joined up. You chose to go out and maybe party. You were told by your 1st Sgt to show for early morning PT. Since you're on the night shift, what better way to end you shift than by a little PT. Wanting to know if there is some regulation that will get you out early morning PT is lame.

You don't want to sound like you are whining? Then quit your damn whining. Your only option if you think your life is tough?
Don't re-enlist. Until then you are sol.

I worked shift work as well. We had PT right after shift at some duty stations, or around 0900 for midnight. Get with your platoon leadership and see what can be done.

Get a big cup of suck it up. Does it suck? Yes. Is it fair? Probably not. Go to PT and then take a nap before work, whatever you need to do. You have your orders, figure it out.

Go to PT. You are not a victim. Many a day I worked 12 hour shifts as an MP and had to do PT after shift.

Man up. You didn’t sign up for a 9-5 job. Start leading, yes even junior enlisted.
