I am thinking about reenlisting for Korea. What considerations should I be taking into account when talking to the reup NCO?

I am coming up on my first reenlistment and I heard that the drawdown would be affecting future rotations through Korea, so I was thinking now is as good a time as ever to do a rotation through Korea. Some concerns I have is that my wife would not like to go and is willing to stay in our hometown while I was there. I was thinking about something along the lines of a one year unaccompanied tour if it was available. I don't really care much about where exactly I would be stationed as long I was able to experience as much of the local culture as possible while I was there. Any advice you have is much appreciated. What are the chances of being able to find an airborne slot there? I was told there was a significant SOCOM presence there.

You can go there on your own. My wife stayed back when I went there for a year. It a great learning experience both in the culture of the country and the area of your mos. Haven't seen any "airborne slots" there. If you are in a combat arms mos expect to be up north close to the border.

I'm in intel right now, SGT. I've been told there's a lot of spots up north for intel guys. It seems like a different world than for those who are stationed a bit more south.

Probably in Seoul. The post is called yongsan. I'm actually heading there at the end of the month. This will be my 3rd time going but this one is tdy with my unit. My mos is a big factor to the Korea mission. But in reality it all depends on where they need you. Unlike me I only have one place to go there lol.

Third time in Korea? That's awesome. How have you liked it so far?
I've had intel friends stationed across the whole country from Seoul to Camp Casey. That's where my previous assessment of the experience depends on where you are stationed comes from, but I guess that is an Army-wide thing also. I have never been overseas before and this seems like a great opportunity to get immersed in a foreign culture.

Honestly it was amazing. Unit cohesion is fantastic and the country is amazing along with its food. You will have a blast I promise. Just do the right thing and don't be a barracks rat lol.
