SGT, Look into you Units METL, and see how the optempo is with your unit.

I just made the exact OPPOSITE move that you made, in that I just went from a Sapper Company to an HHC in the S-3 section, and all I can say is holy Hell, it's a culture shock. Depending on how long you've been in the S-3, the only advice I would think to give is that you ensure you brush back up on your basic soldiering and be sure that you are still proficient in your job, as they'll expect you to still be on par with seasoned line leaders. Best of luck and congrats.

I am transferring back to a line unit after S3 and want to make a good impact for my new company. How do I get prepared to lead a new squad?

As a junior, I'd say key in on what your squad knows and doesn't know. See where it needs improvement and focus on that. Get to know your squad. There should still be that Sergeant - Soldier relationship but they should know that they can come to you with their problems or ideas. As for the admin and higher stuff, I have no input as of yet.

Be the expert, lead by example, ensure your squad is always properly trained and cared for. And, just give a shit... that is... care, really care. SSG (Join to see)

SSG (Join to see) A couple of links that might help. You were previously a Fire Team Leader, so that will help. Be squared away yourself, so that you can set the example. Make sure that your men are taken care of and that they are well trained and mentored. You will make mistakes, so learn from them, and do not make the same mistake twice.
