Yes, ask your MCS why aren't they doing the write up like they should be....

I agree with LTC Oberg, whom ever is putting you in for the award should already have all they need in order to do the write up, an award should be a surprise and come to you for your accomplishments.

MSG Michael Caldwell Couldn't agree more...unfortunately, we are seeing this more and more these days. And it doesn't stop with awards, I have heard too many times of people writing their own evaluations for their rater. As leaders, it is our responsibility to do what is write and not what is always easiest!

SFC Jerry Crouch, Ed.D. That is a great technique, but I would argue it could be applied to awards you would be drafting for your Soldiers as well, and not necessarily yours. I just think it is one of those "taking care of Soldiers" issues that gets pushed to the side until right before / after a Soldier leaves the unit.

SGT (Join to see) This sounds like a leadership failure. You should not have to write anything for an award you may be receiving. It is a command responsibility.

Yes sir, I realize that but just like my NCOERS and awards, in order for them to be finished or even receive an award it has been up to me to write them, leadership failure is a disease but these leaders remain in that position and even get promoted. I was told at NYC and by numerous individuals I should receive this award, so I am taking steps to get it.

But awards aren't the only issue though, we have soldiers being denied schools, as well. I put my clerk in for an AAM and the rear d 1SG's comment was, he got a coin from the DCG why does he need an AAM, I have had 2 ALC classes and numerous troop schools canceled because I was to vital to the mission, thankfully my supervisor now is allowing me to take troop schools and soon ALC, but I am way behind my peers because I was tucked away in the motorpool because they couldn't afford to lose me.
