You can check it with a CAC reader for your iPhone or Android. Read about them at: http://militarycac.com/mobile.htm#iPhone_and_iPad or http://militarycac.com/mobile.htm#Android_Information_

Thanks Reid, yes with modern computer programs like Teamviewer, I've been able to help people all over the world right from my house. :)

Chief - the Army is losing a tremendous resource. Hopefully you can parlay this into a tremendous financial opportunity for you and your family. I've used your site more times than I can count and referred an untold number of people there as well.

Sometimes HRC cuts off their nose just to spite their face. Maybe someday they'll get back to the idea that as AGRs, we are still Reservists and stop this ridiculous need to out-Army the AD Army.

Best of luck!

I think it is a good thing, what if your mobile device get lost or stolen all that information could end up in the wrong hands domestic or foreign?

Prolly an OPSEC thing. Mobiles are far less secure than we would like.

The Thursby apps run a FIPS 140 compliant app that encapsulates the data. It is CAC only accessible.

I have used thursby since they came out with the iOS app. Great product to keep my packing list down if all I need is some CAC. Enabled websites.

USARC is issuing iPhones instead of Blackberrys now. They've locked down a lot of features and require secure passcode access, but it's a smartphone.

I hate not being able to check my enterprise mail from my smart phone. Do you feel the same way?

Mr. Taylor,

I feel the other way because I have the Black Berry on my hip at all times.

I can certainly relate to the frustration of being tied to OWA to check your email.

I am fortunate, or unfortunate enough depending on how you look at it, to have been issued a Government BlackBerry so I do not miss not being able to use my smartphone.

It is nice to be able to see when I get a message in from the blinking light and take care of it right away. I use it while out of the office to try and stay on top of my inbox.

I used to have it on my smartphone and that was very convenient as I only had to carry one device.

I used to be the same way COL Rosnow. But, I have to remember, there a lot more people out there who do not get issued a BlackBerry.

I am glad for the small respite that I am allowed because I can't check it every second.

I got to the point when I had a BlackBerry to turn off notifications. Otherwise, I felt the need to check it every time it buzzed. I was getting between 100-200 emails per day. Once I turned off the notification, I would check it when I had the opportunity.

OPSEC shouldn't be the problem. Everything is vulnerable. That's why we have levels of security. But basic emails that pertain to small things should be able to be viewed. We should be able to purchase a blackberry or other smart phone and have our S6 put on necessary software to use it. By I must agree that sometimes not being able to work is better. I've learned to love my off time and not always be at work.

I agree just because of the convenience alone as long as we could make it secure and affordable

Does anyone really use a BlackBerry anymore? :) "Most" of the BlackBerry CAC readers are designed for only 1 or 2 models of BlackBerry. And just having a CAC reader for the BlackBerry does not mean you can check your email. Remember, the Thursby solution only allows us to check our email via web.mail.mil, it is not as convenient as just looking at the mail app on your phone. Thursby has a mail program that could be used, but DISA is blocking EAS (Exchange Active Synch). If DISA would ever open this up. The ability would be there for us.

The truth is, mobile phones, especially Androids and to a lesser extent iPhones, are constantly being probed by hackers and foreign entities for exploitable vulnerabilities. Keeping your applications updated at all times helps in securing information, but does not actually make you safe. Additionally, though the sum of one email's content may not prove dangerous, having access to a large aggregate of information can easily coagulate into Secret or Top Secret levels if it gets into the wrong hands. Few people realize just how much the Army tries to mitigate the risks of security breaches by domestic and foreign actors. If you'd like to know more, read up on the Cyber Security Awareness information that was supposed to be disseminated to all CAC account holders during the month of November. Remember, always promote operational security by using approved government systems for approved government purposes and notify your S-2 / S-6 / Security manager if anything fishy or anomalous happens.
