I am in an FSC who is the support for an INF BN. Currently my DMOS is 91F20, Small Arms and Artillery Repairer. I am in the Army National Guard and I am a dual status technician. I know that the position of an Armorer is appointed by the Commander. But why is it when you have a 91F in your unit it's almost automatic that he/she is the Unit Armorer without appointment orders? Is it a lack of knowledge of the position by leadership? Can somebody bring light to the issue and is this just my problem or is it an issue?

I am in your current position now. The only difference is I have a good Supply SGT. The other post about security is right. Supply should take this role with you providing services inspection and repairs to your unit weapons. This is only if you are not actively providing support to your supported unit. If you are occupied with supportING unit then the weapons would be sent to the FMS or the FMS would send you a 91F to do it. For instance...your unit is due for annuals but you need support your tank unit at gunnery, then the annuals would be done by FMS and you would support gunnery.

Usually unit armorer falls on the one of the supply clerks with an armament designator, but for some reason fsc's like to use the 91f for this this role. I have had countless arguments about this. It seems to be a problem all around. My current supply NCOIC knows how it's supposed to be run but unfortunately he's too undermanned to run supply. Undermanned usually means, pull from other sections, and that's when they take the 91F's to fill in
