My husband is active duty and pcsing to korea next month, commander sponsorship got approved. I am in army reserve and i am going to Korea with him. I am only 8 months away from ets. I checked If I can transfer my unit to korea. However, there are no oversea units needs 92f(fueler). So, I asked my company commander for RST. my company commander denied without giving me any reason... I know he has a right to deny it. But now I need to come to the states multiple times just for 1-2 day training. I need to pay flight ticket, renting car, hotel, food, and even now I have to be in 2 weeks quarantine each time I move to korea and texas back and forth.
Now I cannot find a job until I ets, because no one is going to hire me since I will be gone few months because of covid quarantine. And I will be in bad financial problem.... Anyone has any advice what should I do?

1) Get the IRR request submitted. That needs to happen regardless if they say they will do it or not. If you only have 8 months left to ETS then it is not an unreasonable request.
2) Let your CoC know of your situation. They have options open to them that can get all parties through this. Heck, even a few Excused absences and RST's (just knocking out on-line training certificates that add up to 16 hours solves an entire BA RST) could solve this.
3) If #2 and #1 are not solutions, and you have let your CoC know of your situation then having asked for a reasonable IRR transfer will give you teeth to an IG inquiry or JAG appeal, or anything higher you might have to involve.

The reality of the worst case scenario of just not showing up this close to ETS probably isn't going to result in a negative action resulting in a less than Honorable Discharge. But without formally submitting an IRR transfer request you leave that option on the table to your higher command. If you formally submit for an IRR in face of your disclosed situation and time line you complicate matters for a General to discharge you in a negative way.

What I try an convey to soldiers is you need to make all attempts to make things right by your units way of doing things, but at the end of the day you need to balance the pros and cons of your actions and how they impact you going forward in life.

If you look into your options you might find you have a lot less "negative" courses of action open to you if you explore those choices.

Thank you for the answer sir! The commander already tracking my situation... I cannot go IRR since They said I need to give back my sign up bonus which I do not have to pay off my car.... I wish he at least has a reason for denying my request...

SPC (Join to see) - You would only have to pay back the portion of your bonus pro-rated for the time you have served. If you are 8 months out and applied for IRR today, you might end up repaying 6 months of it. They don't seem very fast with IRR orders these days.
As suggested elsewhere, find a unit in Korea that has a vacancy and apply for transfer and Reclassification to whatever MOS they have open. Your other MOS doesn't go away, so when you get back stateside, you can have branch switch you back if you chose.
Here are the justifications for a TPU soldier to go IRR out of AR140-10. 4–10. Voluntary reassignment of troop program unit or individual mobilization augmentee enlisted
Soldiers
The voluntary reassignment of a TPU or IMA Soldier to an appropriate control group of the IRR is authorized only under
one or more of the following conditions:
a. When there is a confirmed unresolvable employment conflict.
b. When the Soldier has a change of address to an area beyond reasonable commuting distance (as defined by DODI
1215.13) of any USAR training center.
c. For cogent personal reasons. However, for a TPU Soldier this is provided an exception to policy has been approved
by the MSC/DRC/GOCOM

You could transfer into the IRR for the time you're in Korea. There are Reserve units in Japan you might be able to drill with as well for your remainder

SFC (Join to see) - Thank you for the response sfc. I was considering IRR too but they told me that I need to give my sign up bonus back If I request IRR. Currently we are having hardship in finance So I cannot afford to pay back....

SPC (Join to see) - If you are only 8 months out from ETS, you would only pay back 8 months of pro-rated bonus, assuming you were to go IRR immediately.

SGM (Join to see) - That was really great to hear that Sergeant major. Does not going IRR put me on dishonorable discharge status though SGM? If not I am definitely going to talk with my retention NCO again tomorrow!

DHD is only the result of adverse action, involving court-martial.

Also, you can ask if it's possible to request an extension or reenlistment, reclass to 42A and the vacant 42A1O position on USAG Humphreys:

I would look into regulations surrounding required travel distance from your home of record/permanent residence. I know there are limits on how far you can be required to travel as a junior enlisted (at least for our service). I would imagine there is something applicable here, on my phone so its hard to look anything up right now. I think that is a better route than trying to drill out with this unit.

Just to add, if your unit has a recruiting/retention specialist like ours did, they may have the regulation and paperwork on hand already.
