I have a slot for CDQC in May. What did you do to prepare?

I've talked to a prior instructor, a PSG from 1st Bat, and got some tips. Working on the graded events but am looking for more information on what to expect. I know it will suck and be like RIP was initially. Did anything pop out at you or was unexpected?

It's been awhile since I did the course, 1980 to be exact, and it was the hardest thing I've ever done. We had pre-scuba training before going down to Florida. Which was in some ways harder. The thing to remember is to try not to use too much air while doing the long UW compass swims by stressing yourself out. Make sure your buddy knows this too. Read up on diving to be ahead of the game. Get a PADI book and study it. It's a mental game down there also. Good luck!

Thank you for the feedback. I'll still have pre-scuba for 2 weeks prior to the course start date. I'm running into how I sink regardless of technique being an issue at the moment. I'll track down the book and give it a read.

I went a long time ago; class #04-88. I went to pre-scuba that 1/75 offered. The main prepping I personally did was max out on cardio beforehand. By having stronger lung capacity, you're able to withstand crossovers & bobbing much easier. As far as the education is concerned, I listened closely in class & studied every night except Friday & Saturday nights. Also began studying in a small group as more of a refresher before a test...that school was THE funnest school in,my 11st 4 years in the army. Challenging, but VERY fun. Oh yeah...be able to do at least 500 flutter-kicks before going there.
