I have a soldier with an ETS date is in 20 days, and the command wants to give him a PT test. Does the soldier have to do it/pass or fail?

I did a quick Google search and III Corps IG answered this question:
"The bottom line up front is this: There are no limitations placed upon Soldiers or commanders after a Phase 2 physical has been completed unless the Soldier has a profile with limitations that clearly and thoroughly outline those limitations. Soldiers are required to continue to participate in PT. There is no regulation that supports the myth that they can’t participate."
"In addition to PT, Soldiers can also continue to participate in unit training activities. The decision whether a Soldier participates, or does not participate in unit training activities, rests solely with the commander.
If a Soldier is injured while participating in PT or other unit training activities after completing their Phase 2 physical, Soldiers will seek normal medical treatment by utilizing the sick call process at their medical treatment facility."

"PER AR 40-501, STANDARDS OF MEDICAL FITNESS, CHAPTER 8-24, (2) (d) (b): ENLISTED SOLDIERS BEING PROCESSED FOR SEPARATION UNDER PROVISIONS OF AR 635-200 , CHAPTER 5, PARAS 5-3 (INVOLUNTARY SEPARATIONS ONLY), 5-11, 5-12 AND 5-17 ONLY, AND CHAPTERS 8, 9, 11 (PARA 11—3B ONLY), 12 AND 18 WILL RECEIVE A SEPARATION MEDICAL EXAMINATION IF THE SOLDIER REQUESTS IT, OR IF, ON REVIEW OF THE MEDICAL RECORDS OR THE DD FORM 2697, A PHYSICIAN, A PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT, OR A NURSE PRACTITIONER FEELS AN EXAMINATION IS APPROPRIATE (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF INVOLUNTARILY RETAINED (STOP-LOSS) SOLDIERS)."
You aren't even required to get a medical exam if you're ETSing. And there is no regulation that says you can't do PT after your phase 2 physical for ETS. None. Unless someone can show it - your unit can make you take a PT test up to the day before your separation from the Army. Most units don't do stupid stuff like that though. I wouldn't have someone take a PT test who has 20 days left. It's a waste of time.

Phase 2 physicals: When completed, does it place limitations on Soldiers or commanders?
Here’s the situation: “Spc. John Doe” is preparing to exit the Army within the next two months and he has just completed his Phase 2 physical. One of Doe’s battle

The above quote is the most important portion of the entire post. I pray they have common sense leadership.

Technically, yes. My opinion is it is the Commander's best interest to let that one go. First of all, why do that to the Soldier, regardless of why he's ETSing? Second, if he fails, then what? What is the next step? Third, if he gets bare minimum out of spite, that will destroy some APFT stats across the board...unless you toss the 705 in the trash.

No, only if the Soldier is inspired to do so. You did say 20 days left? However, if there are other underlying issues not mentioned, the Soldier's ETS orders could be amended to keep the Soldier longer in uniform.
Generally speaking, leaders probably should apply common sense to the situation....hoooah!!

(Not sure of the details for this person but, If they’ve already had their separation physical, they don’t have to do a pt test or conduct pt.

And that’s the reason why the service member can’t conduct pt due to a potential injury which would include a BA claim and on-going medical treatment after discharge. SFC James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4"

ACAP much? After the ETS physical is begun, PT should be off limits for the Soldier. Strain your spleen after starting the physical? Gotta start the physical over. No APFT for him.

That Command needs a whack in the back of the head; he should contact the servicing IG.

Sounds like we dont have all the information...but...if the Soldier is 20 days out what is the point? The Soldier should be going through the transition briefs. Do you have an update?
The risk of the Soldier getting injured outweighs the need for a PT test.

I had a PT test during my last two weeks with the rest of my battery in 1991. I passed but since I was leaving anyway I didn't put a lot of effort into it since I was basically in my own platoon anyway by then and had no incentive to blow it out of the water. Even when I do the test, many in the Battery disagreed and complained to the officers and sergeants who only shrugged.
The physical was the last thing I did. At the time, I was VERY SICK. I intended to separate, go home and find a cure and then re-up. The physical was basically the doctor saying to about 12 guys at sick call, give me your forms and I will just sign them all. It was that way at Ft. Dix too.
Unfortunately, I could not re-up. My family's doctor referred me to a Gastro-Intestinal doctor who diagnosed me during terminal leave with advanced Crohn's Disease and a colon that was about to burst. But now I have free care for that through the VA.

Also After their Phase 2 physical, Soldiers are still required to be able to pass the Army Physical Fitness Test and meet the requirements of Army Regulation 600-9 until they are discharged from the Army. And in accordance with AR 601-210, if a Soldier has not completed their eight-year total commitment, they are required to meet these standards even after leaving the active Army, since they can be recalled to active duty at any time within their initial period of obligation.
But in addition to this most posts have a Separation Point to which you are "Attached" to for Out-Processing; like the one at Ft. Knox where I out processed. There are no assigned duties or PT while attached there.
