I have a soldier with an ETS date is in 20 days, and the command wants to give him a PT test. Does the soldier have to do it/pass or fail?

When a soldier has completed his exit/VA physical, he no longer participated in PT due to the liability that the military could incur were he to be injured. At this point, PT formation is strictly for accountability for him. Any good Unit would have this soldier continually working to out process and prepare for life after the Army.

The soldier has to follow a lawful order and take the test if that is what they're asked to do, but they could fail every event and it wouldn't matter. I can't believe the 1SG is allowing this to occur in the first place unless they're enforcing it. Even if this is the case, the command team knows it has no bearing on the unit's stats. If this soldier was handling their business they would be on terminal leave right now and not worried about a John Brown PT test. Just my thoughts on the situation. CSM Satterly is spot on with the harassment.

I love how conan's just thinks they can do whatever the hell they want... thata like ordering a jump a day before he's done... not gonna fucking happen

The only reason I can think of to force the soldier to take a PT test would be to bar him to re-enlistment. Seems fairly petty at this point, but I'd have to know more to understand their logic. Thing is, you can always not do something and if there's no reason for doing something then why? Because I say so! At this distance from serving, that just seems stupid.

At '19-and-a-wake-up', "PT" is running to the package store for beers and a bottle! ;)

I'm not aware that short timers are exempt from doing PT tests. The Army owns a soldier until he ETS's.
Since the two CSMs and the 1SG who responded give a different perspective, I will defer to their knowledge and experience.

Most of us agree. If he does the "damn" APFT and hurts himself the Cdr will be FUBAR by his higher HQ.

The Military requires every Soldier to be Physical Fit at all times and can both give a Diagnostic or Record PT Test up until the prior to ETS. If the 1st SG want to give a Soldier a PT Test days prior to ETS he can do so. Refusal can lead to a flag or disobeying a lawful order.
