I have a soldier with an ETS date is in 20 days, and the command wants to give him a PT test. Does the soldier have to do it/pass or fail?

So who is reading the ARs here anyway? Let's reference that RTFN. You know the Big Army is big on lecturing the Troop on the ARs. Maybe big leadership ought read the ARs and if not...Well let the Troop contact the VA in the future for "Big Commands Decision" So lets get the folks at Bragg or whatever produce the AR on this site to see how their comprehension squares with the rest of the Army. This is a complete embarrassment. Enlisted folks have been treated like dirt for long enough by substandard leaders

As long as he is still on active duty, and not on terminal leave, he can be given a PT test.

If he is in the military then yes he has to take it, just do your best.

He needs to do the very best that he can in the P.T. test. This will go on his permanent record. When he shows his DD213 to an employer, they will look at it but may skim over his physical status..., or not, it's up to him. I would want to put my best foot forward when i put my DD213 in front of a potential employer, wouldn't you?

He should take the test and it show the condition he is in and if their is problems with hi and if so he can get help or benifits, I took pt test before I got out in 1969 and they found I had a few medival problems and I am getting care for through my VA hospital.

Don’t fight this; it’s not worth it. Shortly before I retired I had to take a PT test. I took it but did not wear myself out for it. Just take it and don’t get yourself in trouble right before you get out for something so trivial

Does the Soldier have to take it? yes, he is still on active duty. If he/she served less than 8 years, they will remain in the military (IRR) until their full obligation is finished. Do they have to pass it? No. Anybody who fails the APFT is given time to take it again, but the time he can take it again, they will be out. Tell your Soldier to schedule the APFT the day before they leave, take your time forwarding the information. It looks like to me, that someone is simply being silly.

He should be ROD (Relieved of Duties) and outprocessing the post. This sounds like one screwed up unit that is trying to pressure the soldier into reuppping.

CSM, SGM, and 1SG are exactly correct in practice and arguably in common sense but I’ve never that in the regs. I don’t see a reason for the unit/CDR to make a big deal about it. I don’t see any harassment but again can’t refute it. SGT I think you at most ask your 1SG or PSG... it’s there fight. Present the issues but don’t get your “ass in sling”. Would I make him do it NO but then again I led a unit run the morning of my retirement. I applaud you for taking care of your Joe!
