CJ Grisham, President of Open Carry Texas, Army veteran and recent candidate for State Representative in District 55, along with a couple of other people was arrested yesterday in Olmos Park, TX (Bexar County). He was tazed and subsequently injured in that arrest with a head injury and was hospitalized. I was told that the head injury was a large gash on the back of the head. He also suffered numerous scrapes on his wrists and arms.

Grisham and crew were legally opening carrying pistols and long guns in response to an event last week when an Olmos Park police officer drew guns on and detained someone with a protest sign solely for the reason of open carrying a pistol (which turned out to be a training fake).

Grisham had a phone conversation with the Olmos Park Police Chief, Rene Valenciano about their policies, etc. in which the chief seemed entirely unconcerned with his officers illegally detaining people for a perfectly legal activity. (The conversation will be linked in the comments below).

Grisham and crew went to Olmos Park yesterday and were legally and peacefully open carrying and got arrested for it. There is a video of the arrest. There was no articulated probable cause for the arrest. The police showed up, including Chief Valenciano and ordered Grisham and his crew to the ground. Grisham at least refused. It was Valenciano that personally tazed and arrested Grisham.

Between the phone call and video from the site, it's very clear this was an illegal arrest by an oath breaking police officer and they will be held accountable.

They need to be sued. As a department, city and personally. Force his resignation.

I don't know who crossed the line first, BUT even though we are an open carry state, there are still many cities and police Dept's that are run by a Democrat majority and oppose open carry. There are several businesses I have open carried in before, but now someone has complained about open carry in the business that now if you carry and you want to go into this business you must carry it concealed.

There's nothing sensitive about it. There are deep seated democrats and liberal Republicans that do not believe in open carry, or even our right to own weapons. So as for the issue it all depends on whose in power.

So where's the video(s)? We would like to see at the very least three angles! I want to see the facts prior to bashing police or any other so called professionals in this room.

Good thing that they were not black or Hispanic open and carry pistols and AR-15s because all good have been shot to death before asking them any questions, particularly the one resisting arrest.

The way I see it - right or wrong - we have private citizens openly disobeying an appointed law official - which resulted in a confrontation - there is a right way and a wrong way - and confronting police officers when you have firearms is not the smartest thing to do and you are lucky that no one was shot - you claim not to bow before tyranny - but what you did is not what the constitution is for - when the officer asked you to stand down you should have complied - as I tell troops on this site that going against your NCO's is a no win situation in the moment, even if the NCO was wrong - you comply, then utilize the open door policies - you 1SG are acting and behaving as a private and that confrontation has done more harm then good in the national arena for NRA and 2nd amendment advocates - you 1SG are that officer who is looking for personal glory at the expense of the overall mission, and his men. Had you complied and had the video supporting you, you would have had more people sympathetic to your cause - instead - you appear to be a radical, deliberately looking for confrontations and you WILL, not a matter of if, get someone shot or killed in these confrontations. As a second amendment advocate, I will at every opportunity, condemn you and your actions. This is not the way to effect change - there are and always will be other avenues then direct confrontations with law officers. Your phone the day before was an explicit call to challenge, and then you cry victim when they show up. sorry - not buying the bovine fecal matter that you espouse.

They both crossed the line. But Grisham and OTC crossed the line first. There was an ordinance that prohibited anyone other than a police officer from carrying a loaded rifle on public streets. Had Grisham complied with the lawful order enforcing the ordinance, he would have standing to sue to challenge the ordinance. Just because OTC believed the ordinance was unlawful, and even if they were right, that does not give them the right to ignore the police. He didn't comply and the police crossed the line and escalated the otherwise peaceful protest. And the police crossed another line trying to cover-up how they handled the situation. Even if the ordnance was unconstitutional, that does not make the order of the police trying to enforce the ordinance an unlawful order that can be ignored without consequence.

I am tired of people demanding people get fired because they don't like something they said. The guy was making a joke. Was it a joke in bad taste, most likely. If he actually does something like that, put his ass in jail. But this crap is out of control.
