I have conflicting feelings over this. I know that open carry is a thing in Texas, but who crossed the line, if anyone?

CJ Grisham, President of Open Carry Texas, Army veteran and recent candidate for State Representative in District 55, along with a couple of other people was arrested yesterday in Olmos Park, TX (Bexar County). He was tazed and subsequently injured in that arrest with a head injury and was hospitalized. I was told that the head injury was a large gash on the back of the head. He also suffered numerous scrapes on his wrists and arms.
Grisham and crew were legally opening carrying pistols and long guns in response to an event last week when an Olmos Park police officer drew guns on and detained someone with a protest sign solely for the reason of open carrying a pistol (which turned out to be a training fake).
Grisham had a phone conversation with the Olmos Park Police Chief, Rene Valenciano about their policies, etc. in which the chief seemed entirely unconcerned with his officers illegally detaining people for a perfectly legal activity. (The conversation will be linked in the comments below).
Grisham and crew went to Olmos Park yesterday and were legally and peacefully open carrying and got arrested for it. There is a video of the arrest. There was no articulated probable cause for the arrest. The police showed up, including Chief Valenciano and ordered Grisham and his crew to the ground. Grisham at least refused. It was Valenciano that personally tazed and arrested Grisham.
Between the phone call and video from the site, it's very clear this was an illegal arrest by an oath breaking police officer and they will be held accountable.

I’d like to Follow this case if anything new comes of it. He should be Fined, & FIRED! Ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Unfortunately, this is just an example of the slow exposure and necessary weeding out of over-zealous police who sometimes overemphasize the need to take control of all situations at any cost, rather than adhere to the oath that they swore to when they became sworn officers. This chief, and his department, and the city who passively enabled them, must and hopefully will pay a price for this abuse of power.

1SG Grisham, the same thing happened here in white co ar. The police chief and the dept. We're both investigated and the chief lost his and subsequently went to prison. The biggest issue I have with this is that I am from Bexar co and it pains me to hear that such a thing can happen in the state that I love. But Top, I'm here for you in more ways than one. I hope this message get to you personally, for the fact that if I can help you, I want to. I was in the army for 28 years and a police officer for almost 10, the police ALWAYS have an us vs. Them attitude but in these two cases, they need to be held accountable for their unruly and illegal actions. Yes, the open carry law is in their favor. However, in this case Grisham violated a request to get down on the ground. If he had obeyed that order instead of resisting it. He would have one hell of a case for unlawful detainment and or arrest.

I use to be with a sheriff's office . Many officers have a god problem in their head . They are right and for the most part it is difficult to get an officer busted for an 'illegal' arrest . He will just say ' i did not know ' and judges go along with it and will slap their hands . These guys should have been smarter and known better .

They need to sue the living shit out of that entire department AND file a formal complaint against that department to their state officials and the federal DOJ and FBI - IF all that was written is true.
