CJ Grisham, President of Open Carry Texas, Army veteran and recent candidate for State Representative in District 55, along with a couple of other people was arrested yesterday in Olmos Park, TX (Bexar County). He was tazed and subsequently injured in that arrest with a head injury and was hospitalized. I was told that the head injury was a large gash on the back of the head. He also suffered numerous scrapes on his wrists and arms.

Grisham and crew were legally opening carrying pistols and long guns in response to an event last week when an Olmos Park police officer drew guns on and detained someone with a protest sign solely for the reason of open carrying a pistol (which turned out to be a training fake).

Grisham had a phone conversation with the Olmos Park Police Chief, Rene Valenciano about their policies, etc. in which the chief seemed entirely unconcerned with his officers illegally detaining people for a perfectly legal activity. (The conversation will be linked in the comments below).

Grisham and crew went to Olmos Park yesterday and were legally and peacefully open carrying and got arrested for it. There is a video of the arrest. There was no articulated probable cause for the arrest. The police showed up, including Chief Valenciano and ordered Grisham and his crew to the ground. Grisham at least refused. It was Valenciano that personally tazed and arrested Grisham.

Between the phone call and video from the site, it's very clear this was an illegal arrest by an oath breaking police officer and they will be held accountable.

Yeah, the thing you don't understand is that they have the backing of the local DA, politicians, people, etc. They'll keep sweeping it under the rug, and they'll keep getting away with it. I would have to say that Bexar county in Texas is indeed the most corrupt in the state. Dare say, more corrupt than New Orleans, LA. Don't taunt the law there, they'll arrest you and kill you in the jail. This is a proven fact.

SSG Jeffrey Leake That's where the front lines of the underground war of USA vs The People start. Seriously, go there, open carry. Black, white, purple, you will be arrested. You will die in jail. No one will care because you will be torn apart in the media. Every slightly bad thing you have ever done will be blown to crazy sensationalism, and your death will find no justice. Just another statistic no one will see. Don't mess with Bexar county.

1stLt Jon Finstad, I never open carry. It's just asking for unwanted attention and trouble. I have a CCW for a reason. As far as going Bexar county, no thank you, sir.

Here's how this retired LEO sees this,

Unless the municipality has some kind of an ordinance prohibiting open carry (In violation of state and/or federal law), I also believe Grisham was not in the wrong. However, if he was ordered by the police to get on the ground he should have done it immediately and without argument, allowed the police to take the weapons and take them to jail, and then made an issue out of the entire matter later.

Showing Valenciano to be what he is, a thug, and then suing him and the department for false arrest; thus perhaps causing the municipality to have to pay a hefty settlement and probably resulting in the Chief's dismissal, would have been a smarter way to make the point. By refusing to comply, he forced Valenciano's hand and ended up getting himself injured. Now they are liable to try and cite him for resisting arrest. disorderly conduct or something else equally as specious.

Just my two cents. Well now some people just don't know when to stop in this case it would appear we have two or more.

Don't give two shits about anyone that open carries. There's no reason for it except to intimidate others. That's the bright line; their 'Rights' interfering with my peace in public areas.

I hope the officer is stripped of his police duties and retirement and both individuals and city are sued but time.

Is it true 2018, our Veterans, irrelevant of their devotion or "decorations" are considered terrorist? That would or would that end our Constitutional right to bare arms against treason tyranny? Perplexed "free" citizen.

Some people feel that way, yes. But, a lot of the time those people are getting their "information" from newspapers or television news. They are sadly misinformed. We are not, in fact, "terrorist".

My interest in this RallyPoint topic has ties to what I learned from General William G Boykin on the movie Revelation: Dawn of Global Government. *Revelationonthemovie.info

Sounds like some blue need to be orange. They’re trying their own dictatorship. Boot em and change their color.

Having not been there or witnessed what happened, I'm not going to start Monday Morning quarterbacking something I don't have all of the details on. Regardless of who's right or wrong, when the police start ordering you to the ground, it's not the time to argue the validity of the detention or subsequent arrest.

Pretty typical that Cops have no idea what they are doing. Giving a cop a gun is like giving a toddler your car keys.

Pretty typical too, that someone who doesn't like cops, has never been a cop, and no idea what it takes to be a cop will shoot his mouth off without any frame of reference and make himself or herself out to be a horses ass with teeth. Where do you go to get those teeth cleaned - the proctologist?
