I have conflicting feelings over this. I know that open carry is a thing in Texas, but who crossed the line, if anyone?

CJ Grisham, President of Open Carry Texas, Army veteran and recent candidate for State Representative in District 55, along with a couple of other people was arrested yesterday in Olmos Park, TX (Bexar County). He was tazed and subsequently injured in that arrest with a head injury and was hospitalized. I was told that the head injury was a large gash on the back of the head. He also suffered numerous scrapes on his wrists and arms.
Grisham and crew were legally opening carrying pistols and long guns in response to an event last week when an Olmos Park police officer drew guns on and detained someone with a protest sign solely for the reason of open carrying a pistol (which turned out to be a training fake).
Grisham had a phone conversation with the Olmos Park Police Chief, Rene Valenciano about their policies, etc. in which the chief seemed entirely unconcerned with his officers illegally detaining people for a perfectly legal activity. (The conversation will be linked in the comments below).
Grisham and crew went to Olmos Park yesterday and were legally and peacefully open carrying and got arrested for it. There is a video of the arrest. There was no articulated probable cause for the arrest. The police showed up, including Chief Valenciano and ordered Grisham and his crew to the ground. Grisham at least refused. It was Valenciano that personally tazed and arrested Grisham.
Between the phone call and video from the site, it's very clear this was an illegal arrest by an oath breaking police officer and they will be held accountable.

One someone there may have called the police saying that they were doing something wrong, so the police have to respond and verify. Two if an officer tells you to do some thing and you refuse you are in the wrong no matter what. You did not post a link to the video so I am only going off what you wrote.

Isn’t it at this point we tell people to always do what the cops tell you to do or is that reserved only for Black people?
At least none of them were shot like the guy that was legally armed and informed the officer he was armed during a traffic stop.
Bottomline, take the same advice you’re willing to give others. Privilege only takes you so far. Sucks for him.

In 2008 the Gonzales, LA Police Department had to pay out on a law suit from an open carry arrest. A fellow named Mark Marchiafava was arrested and later prevailed in the suit.

Open carry is a "thing" which is legal in Texas ONLY if one has a Texas CCW or a CCW from a state which has reciprocity with Texas, i.e., each state recognizes a CCW from the other. Mr. Grisham and his followers put me in mind of those knuckleheads who claim to be "sovereign citizens" who are not subject to the laws everybody else must follow. They claimed to be "teaching the cops a lesson" by openly defying Texas law as it is written because they don't agree with it. Do that and you can expect to be arrested. The proper place for this controversy is in the Texas Legislature, not on the street.

From the IG Desk:
Our first lesson in "IG School" was, "Never own the first spot report." Excellent guidance. I must assume there is more than meets the eye test to this issue. One doesn't become a Senior Police Official by being stupid or uneducated in law. I'll form no opinion until further detail of "WHY" this occurred is made public.

The "further detail" is all over the internet, there have been several FOIA requests and associated documents posted as well The chief is going to be or already tossed out of office and there are a lot of lawsuits pending this behavior was systemic within the department. Anyone doing a 2nd amendment audit was treated harshly and several were injured by overzealous police officers trying to please the chief instead of obeying their oath and the laws of Texas, personal property was confiscated and sometimes damaged especially camera footage of the incidents. The Olmos Park city coffers are going to be drained and property taxes will go up a lot to cover the lawsuits many of which may not be covered by the municipal insurance coverage.
