CJ Grisham, President of Open Carry Texas, Army veteran and recent candidate for State Representative in District 55, along with a couple of other people was arrested yesterday in Olmos Park, TX (Bexar County). He was tazed and subsequently injured in that arrest with a head injury and was hospitalized. I was told that the head injury was a large gash on the back of the head. He also suffered numerous scrapes on his wrists and arms.

Grisham and crew were legally opening carrying pistols and long guns in response to an event last week when an Olmos Park police officer drew guns on and detained someone with a protest sign solely for the reason of open carrying a pistol (which turned out to be a training fake).

Grisham had a phone conversation with the Olmos Park Police Chief, Rene Valenciano about their policies, etc. in which the chief seemed entirely unconcerned with his officers illegally detaining people for a perfectly legal activity. (The conversation will be linked in the comments below).

Grisham and crew went to Olmos Park yesterday and were legally and peacefully open carrying and got arrested for it. There is a video of the arrest. There was no articulated probable cause for the arrest. The police showed up, including Chief Valenciano and ordered Grisham and his crew to the ground. Grisham at least refused. It was Valenciano that personally tazed and arrested Grisham.

Between the phone call and video from the site, it's very clear this was an illegal arrest by an oath breaking police officer and they will be held accountable.

This is what happens when petty tyrants gain power. This is also the definition of why the 2nd Amendment was listed in the US Constitution. As a reminder, the freedoms that are enumerated in the US Constitution are not granted or given to us by the US Constitution but, rather, by God almighty. The US Constitution simply states that our rights will be protected as a matter of law.

Having said that, this police chief should not only be fired, but should be brought before the court and sentenced for the violation of the rights of the citizens and held accountable for the injuries that she, and her underlings, caused. As should her underlings!

Much as you, as an American Service Member, are held accountable for your actions. If you were in combat and were given an illegal order, you would be guilty of a crime if you obeyed that order. So to these "police officers".

I look forward to hearing that Olmos Park Police Chief, Rene Valenciano (Sworn officer of the law) and her staff are fired and sent to prison or have to pay heavy civil penalties for violating their oath of office and the law.

I don’t think cops like it when they give an order, such as Get on the ground and the person doesn’t obey.
Usually from there things really go to heck.

Not to take sides, but they better be glad the Cop tazed them. Other area Cops would have shot them them. I'm sure their is the rest of the story. Based on the above facts I see the Cops did not have just cause.

I AM ALL FOR OPEN CARRY IF YOU WISH TO. BUT WE MUST FACE THE FACT THAT THERE ARE CERTAIN AREAS THAT ARE RUN BY LEFTY WACKO'S! LEFTY WACK'S TEND TO HIRE LEFTY WACKO'S TO ENFORCE THEIR VIEW OF THE LAW!! SO I PERSONALLY AM NOT GOING TO GO INTO THE LION'S DEN AND PLAY THE GAME THEIR WAY! IT WILL DO YOU NO GOOD TO GO IN TO THEIR TERRITORY AND GET THE CRAP KICKED OUT OF YOU JUST TO TRY TO PROVE A POINT!
LET THE NAGR OR THE NRA GO IN AND FIGHT THAT FIGHT! I PREFER TO CARRY CONCEALED. I JUST THINK THAT THERE IS NO REASON TO MAKE YOURSELF A TARGET! I HAVE SEEN IT TOO MANY TIMES FIRST HAND! GUYS HAVE BEEN TAKEN DOWN AND ARRESTED, AND I WAS NEVER BOTHERED BECAUSE I DID NOT OPEN CARRY. AND I AM NOT GOING TO, (in the moment0 TAKE ON 50 BULLIES WITH BADGES IN A SITUATION THAT I CANNOT WIN!

Police officers now are only looking after their pension. . They care about safety when it is theirs, and do what they are told. When you can be fired at will and lose your pension this is what happens. It all falls down to "Whose in charge".

PO2 Jack LaBarge Go where? To the truth? I know the truth is sometimes hard to swallow or acknowledge, but all American's arent treated equally. I'm sure similar arguments and suggestions were made back during slavery until the people insisted on the conversation being had to make a difference in the situation. Sadly, if you do not look like me, you'll never truly understand what its like to live in the society in which we live. However, you don't have to sympathize to empathize with the struggles POC face. The first step is acknowledgement.

There are a number of ways of looking at this event and others. The officer has no way of knowing if the person is legal to carry any weapon until they Identify the person. most of these groups simply refuse to assist law enforcement officers, they prefer to make their points no matter what the officer's concerns are. Had all the parties stopped let the officer do what they needed to do for officer safety and the safety of the citizens of the community than the matter would have ended differently. Most criminals are not the smartest people they will figure out that as long as these groups want the police to take the approach of don't respond to open carry calls don't ask for identification, that the criminal can open carry since the police won't check. These laws should have been written so that police could stop I.D. if needed and move on, at the same time law-abiding citizens can open carry. Part of the problem is that most average people who could open carry just don't feel the need to, so now small numbers of open carry advocates go around the states and look to confront police with the open carry, the go into communities where they do not live, and police don't know them; this is what happens. I have carried a firearm all of my adult life if I were confronted by police officers I would allow them to do what they need to do in order for the contact to end quickly and safely for all parties. 1. stop for officers answer officers questions 2. provide Identification. those two actions avoid all the drama

Maybe the group was too close together. Since the Covid virus the powers that be do not want us to group together.

I am retired and live in WA which is so confusing with all the sanctuary cities and so on, I do like to open carry, but I only do so going to and from a range or if I am in the mountains. I don't have a problem with the police, I understand their confusion, the politicians are making it hard for officers to know what the latest policy is...and it seems like each state is becoming it's own country, laws change from border to border. as far as the crap going on in texas or I call it texico..., make em pay !!!
