No. I live near Fort Leonard Wood, and since we went to OCP, the field jacket has disappeared. The Soldiers in training get fleece and Gortex now....

2LT (Join to see) - OK... but, having entered the Army in 1980... I can tell you while the field jacket looked better, it was never the best or warmest option... The stuff we have today is a far cry from we had in Alaska in 1981, or even Fort Drum in 1990 when Gortex and the Bear Suit were in vogue... Gortex still is, but fleece is much better than the Bear Suit... The new under layers are also much better... It was wool long underwear and socks in 1981...

On a bad day we had our blouse, fleece, then gortex jacket, with fleece cap and gloves. My only complaint was the gloves. Those crappy inserts and bad leather gloves didn't keep your hands warm at all. It was a happy day when I threw them out after they ripped and got better ones.

Yes, all I've had to use are the fleece and Gortex, but never at the same time because command doesn't want us to wear them together? And I wholeheartedly concur on the gloves.

your command forbids you to wear the grid fleece and silk weights?

It was put out when OCP was adopted that the field jacket would be discontinued. It was being eliminated anyway.

I know the army made a field jacket in the old ACU (UCP) pattern, but do we know if they have/will make one in multicam or OCP?

Looks like they've opted to the layered system so I doubt it. I still have mine though so I'll always have the memories.

I've considered getting one in the UCP pattern for a fairly decent price of like $19 and its New With Tags and the liner, so I figured I could get a solid 2 years of use out of it.

Hopefully not. They are the ugliest things in the clothing bag.

Kinda hope they do, an extra layer for the cold days in the field. In addition, I wouldn't mind turning one into a patch jacket. Though the Desert Storm era jackets look the best to me.

The OFFICIAL stance is that they will not be made or authorized in OCP. However, there are already third party companies whi make the field jacket in multicam and you can buy them from places such as amazon, grizzly tactical online, and other online sources. They will not be authorized for use while in service, but for your "patch jacket" idea they do exist!

The wet weather jacket with the liner for the field jacket were the best for staying warm.

Yeah! I've got my dad's old OG-107 one from Vietnam in the closet at home and it seems still fairly practical as a piece of equipment, so I don't know why they would stop making them. The whole ECWCS system is cool and all, but I find it too complicated for a practical field use (it's got about 7 different layers to it!)
