You're not eligible for 68W due to your rank. You would need to contact the branch manager and request a grade waiver.

As for the original question, E5 medics are the senior medic. If you don't know how to be a medic you will have difficulty leading junior medics who know more than you

I thought it was Sergeant promotable. I understand not being able to lead junior medics. But also SSG is our senior medic at least. I’m very close to my medics so I get a lot of inside information.

After reading AR 601-280. It says SSG and below when directed by HRC. I’m not trying to step on toes or sound disrespectful just confused. Why would be rank require a waiver if the reg says something different?

SGT (Join to see) it's not that the reg says you're ineligible, it's that the prerequisites for the MOS make you ineligible. The prerequisites are found in DA PAM 611-21 and on the ATRRS Course Catalog. Your senior medic may be a SSG but senior medic slots in BCTs are all SGT slots.

I was a medic before being a Career Counselor and I can tell you for certain that your medics have absolutely no inside information on reclass.

Part of that depends on your component. When I reclassed into the reserves I took a course at Ft. Bragg that was about 2 months long, compared to the 4 months in TX for regular 68W's. I'm almost certain that this school wasn't open to the active component. We didn't have access to all the high-speed resources that troops do down at Ft. Sam-Houston (JSBA), but we had a relaxed environment.

At the time, I was really glad for the accelerated course. We had good cadre and we worked hard. But, in hindsight I think I could have been a better medic, been proficient at more than just stopping the bleeding and treating heat injuries. Another 2 months of studying and drilling would probably have done me some good.

What I’ve seen is that if I was to reclass it would be to an accelerated course. And if would be through the Pennsylvania National Guard. Actually meet a guy in my battalion that went there and he a high speed medic about to go SOAR. He was ironically a 91b to a 68w

SGT (Join to see) I really enjoyed being a 68W in the reserves. I was always able to help-people, and in ways I thought I were best. Follow up the accelerated course with quality training so all that drinking through the firehouse actually sticks.

The 2 month reclass courses are open to NG/Reserve components. But, I was fortunate to experience the Active Duty course.

1LT (Join to see) i concur about the follow up education. Being a medic, it has a lot of perishable skills. SGT Geer, what is your ultimate goal after becoming a 68W?
