I'm about to graduate Accelerated OCS in AMA and wanted to branch Medical. Did I just waste my time?

So I'm about to graduate in a week. My current state is Puerto Rico and it seems they want to push me towards Infantry. Not that I have a problem with that, just feel that I can contribute with another skill set since I'm a paramedic and currently working at a VA Hospital.
What are the options that I have? I was planning on submitting a packet for 70B when I get back, but that would mean that I have to wait until a slot opens or if I'm selected...and also means I'll have to hip pocket my commission. Any advice on what could I do next?

I'll admit to being unsure of all the details of how the Guard works. If you feel strongly that you would be a better medical officer than infantry officer, then apply for the medical job. Take a longer view as CW4 Craig Urban recommends. 20 or 30 years from now being a field grade Army medical administrator, possibly a clinic or hospital commander, will make you an attractive candidate for a similar well-paying job in the public or private sector. Even if the US goes to "Medicare for All" the resulting government medical system will need medical administrators.

Go with your gut and think about when you get out. Infantry means you have to be a security guard. I went with my gut and was a QM for 44 years.

If you really think you can make a better contribution in Medical (my son was medical too), stick with it.
