I am a medic and have been trying to reclass to a 35 series MOS for the last 3 years. I've had packets prepared and ready to go. Every time I speak with my career counselor I am told that there are no school seats for any of the MOSs I and going for. This last Thursday I was finally told that all the seats were going to new recruits and that it was next to impossible for active duty Army to get a seat. I am a little frustrated at not only the time I have spent pushing for reclass and not being told the reason why there are no seats, but also from armyreenlistment.com advertising these MOSs being open. My question is, how do I go about getting one of those seats. I'm not one to give up that easily. There has to be a way. Does anyone on here have any advice?

SGT (Join to see) Have you checked the in/out calls for intel? At this moment, only 35G, 35L and 35N are accepting Skill Level 1 Soldiers

Have you tried going to Branch/MOS clerk directly, this is how I was able to stay in Germany for 3 tours straight, may not apply in your case.
Best of luck!

Thank you for your advice. Unfortunately, I have spoken to the Branch managers of all three MOSs I'm am trying for and all three were less than helpful, actually rude and rather dismissive. I have been told repeatedly to contact my career counselor even after I have informed them that I had done just that. I've considered contacting the schoolhouses directly or talking with a regular active duty recruiter out in town.

When I wanted to go to PLDC back in my day, my CP was not considering me so I made sure I got in front of the Colonel after doing some research on his background. I mentioned his love for collecting tin soldiers made me think of my Grandfather who did the same and asked him what era his collections covered...basically struck up a conversation.
Because I took interest, he did to and he asked about my past, I stated I was a career soldier and strive to be the best in all I do every day, he congratulated me and wished me luck, I simply said: my next mission is PLDC, I just need to get on the list and smiled a bit sly. 3 weeks later I was heading out to PLDC.

This is classic networking and how I have gotten to where I am and much of what I have accomplished in my life is becasue I help others do the same, connect those I meet to those I know, creating win win situations.
My suggestion to you is to find out what the schools NCO (career counselor?) needs in his career or otherwise and see if you know someone who can help, do not make it obvious but when we selflessly help others, good things come to us.
I woudl certainly start a relationship with a clerk or someone, there IS someone out here waiting to hear from you, but talk about them first becasue they need an emotional reason to help you, if they like you, they will help, even bend the rules a bit.
Hope this helps!
Steven

Branch managers don't deal with reclass. Try the proponent NCO. SGT (Join to see) -

It's based on in and out calls. If it's not open then it ain't gonna happen. There is a million things you can do to broaden your horizon so go do something else.

Same thing was told to me. I just graduated last week. My career counseler checked the slots daily for me. Two popped open during the fiscal year change. I was the only prior service in my class and the two after me have no prior service. Your career counselor has to check daily. I was told "your mos will be balanced we can't reclass you" the very next day I got got a call cause two seats opened.
Keep bugging him. If you don't think they are doing their job, try to go higher. After it was all said and done I found out it was the career counselor under the SFC I dealt with that was checking for me daily.

I've been retired since 2010 refresh me please, what MOS is the "35" again? Then maybe I can better answer you. I was lucky to have been able to get all the schools I requested and some were very hard to get because of funds and yes, seating and other recruits wanting them as well. But I was told that I had a lot of points and also because I was a "high maintance" soldier and got letters to go these schools. So I am not sure if maybe you can get some letters from your chain of Command, APFT score high? Mine was always 300+ and that helped a lot! (Not bragging I swear, but our APFT scores go a long way!). So sometimes it does depend on funds in your Unit/Brig., and new soldiers coming in with their first MOS as a 35 series etc. Be patient because it WILL happen for you although I know it's taking some time. Keep us posted please.

The biggest issue that you may have is the in/out call. That stops slot of people from reclassing.

It's because there aren't seats for what you're asking for. If you apply at Boeing to be an engineer, and they tell you all the engineer positions are filled, you can't make more of them open.
You need to qualify for and request an under strength MOS that has seats available. Your counselor was correct, most of the training seats are going to IET students. Pick a packet MOS like 35L.
