I’m ETSing from the Army Reserves in two months, I’m planning on going active duty after ETS. Anyone have any recent experience with this?

If you haven't done so, go speak to a recruiter yesterday to get a Conditional Release request filled out and signed by your chain. Once that comes back with all approved, you're clear to go Active Duty without a break in service. But since your ETS is two months away, you will need to light a huge fire on this to get everyone to sign prior to your ETS.

Just have your recruiter have you going active duty on following day after ets from Army Reserve

That’s the plan. The following day they will submit a grade determination packet. If that’s approved I’ll be assigned a duty station. I’m more just curious about the process afterwards. Reporting to a duty station as prior service soldier brings up some questions for me. As far as uniforms, billeting, etc.

SGT (Join to see) where ever you will be stationed, you'll first report to either the unit directly or to replacement section. Your orders will dictate. Once checked into your unit, they'll assign you to your barracks room. As for uniforms, that could/should be easily handled by unit supply or even in the replacement depot.

Yes speak to a recruiter before you ETS so you can try and not have a break or possibly not have to go through MEPs if you have completed your MSO. I would not wait until you ETS.

So would you recommend going into the IRR instead of ETS, SGM? That way technically there’s no break in service.

If you want to go Active duty see a recruiter as soon as possible. They will be able to guide you. I cannot give you up to date info as I am not a recruiter. They are the experts and only ones who can assist you with going active duty. Now if you need a change or break but want the option to stay in the Army, then I recommend seeing your local Army Reserve Career Counselor for advice about another unit (TPU to TPU transfer) or the very least, reenlist into IRR until you find what you want if you do not have any MSO time left. Hope this helps. I would need to know more to better advise you. If you want to speak shoot me an email with your cell. terry.c.jabbour2.milSGT (Join to see)

Please make sure your PHA is green in all categories and it’s up to date. You will be a “no med” contract meaning you will bypass the MEPS physical using your PHA. Any red will have to be fixed or you will have to be a full physical. If disqualified medically you may not be able to enlist again.
