A DD 214 is the document that states your military service however it does not separate you from the service, orders do that. I received my DD214 before starting terminal leave and my orders indicated my last day on active duty. Huge difference between the two pieces of paperwork.

If they want to be an ass about it they could make you wait until mid-night to let you go. You are getting paid for the day!

One second after midnight on the day after it says your separation date is when they can't hold you any longer. Why are you so worked up about this? Let the chips fall knowing that you will be out of the Army in short order anyways. What's one day? You have the rest of your life!

You are in the Army until the end of your last day in the Army.
If you have given your commander a reason to be concerned that you might not make your flight on your own, then they might sure that you do.
