I'm not bitchin or complaining. Want to know how some of you that have been out for a while cope with finding purpose?

If I ever find somewhere I feel like I "fit in", I'll let you know....
Been retired almost 10 years. I'm on my fourth career change since returning to civilian life. I've been in EMS longer than any other job I've taken but I still feel like I no longer have a purpose in life.

To this day, I can't seem to find a job gives me the kind of purpose the military did. I have not been able to stay at one job location longer than two (2) years (I'm headed to two in my current job). Have you tried going into public service?

I don't know what specifically you refer to when you say public service. I am a new Dad and want to be involved one day in my son's school board for highschool (not sure how to do that yet). But that is an eventual goal. Not asking for you to tell me what to do but what areas were you thinking of?

SPC Jc "Viking" - There are plenty of public service positions, besides being on a PTA or school board. School boards are not a full-time thing, and they don't get paid much because of it. So, what I mean is this - have you looked at working within the city, county, state, or federal government, as a full-time employee?

I have looked at working for the county in several different capacities but nothing that pays very good which wouldn't matter but I'm trying to be responsible and pay off debt and house. I've looked at being a firefighter and a cop but same story.

SPC Jc "Viking" - Working in public service will not make you rich, and will not always pays six-digit. Being in public service isn't about making a bunch of money, grant it it is nice, but about serving the public. Get your foot in the door, then worry about finding positions that pay more with career progression. What state are you in?
