I'm on orders to Fort Eustis (assuming I'm going to a Signal unit). What are your opinions on the post and its units?

This place isn't bad. I'm an AIT instructor here and coming up on my departure. The traffic can be bad (avoid 64), and the surrounding area isn't always the best. But you can't beat it for History, food, and a lot to do and see.

Place is horrible, corrupt and shady as the ocean is salty. E.U.S.T.I.S.= Even Uncle Sam Thinks It's Stupid!
But the area is awesome, Williamsburg, VA Beach, tons of stuff to do, enjoy!

MSG (Join to see) - I was stationed in tenth trans BN (waterborne) 98/02, watched my mechanics bust there hump and do the right thing yet get slammed for being late at formation or any other numerous small things. Yet the trans folks, showing up drink on duty, blatant disrespect, used a M915 with 40 foot trailer on a DITY move and used his platoon to help pack everything up, show up late for and sleeping on duty get away with all scott free. I'd thought/hopped it changed till a fellow mechanic went there two or three years ago and wants to quite every week... Somethings never change, OH and some NCO's went from E-1 /E-6 in the SAME platoon never PCSing.

Do not assume you're going to a Signal unit. When I was active duty, I was with a personnel unit, then a DISCOM, then another personnel unit, then an intel unit, then another personnel unit. Only when I went reserves did I end up in one Signal unit, left that for another one, got promoted to WO1 into a Finance unit, left for a really jacked up unit that pretended to be Signal, and now I'm in an Information Operations type unit. You could go anywhere they have a slot for your MOS.

I'm trying to to assume I'm going to a Signal Unit, but I started off in FA and now I'm in an ESB and this made me realize I never want to be in another sig unit again. And a lot of people I'm with now say that once you go to a signal unit it's like an unwritten rule that your going to another signal unit.

Okay, cool....I was a 25B myself before I went warrant. Don't assume you'll be in a Signal unit. Also, if you get to a Finance unit, PM me...I'll have some advice for you.

I'm sure you are ready to say goodbye the The Hump! I spent some time in C/306th when they were still at Camp Colburn. Best of luck in your upcoming assignment.

Ready to say goodbye is an understatement... I've been ready to leave here since I hit one month.

Went to Eustis TDY several times 2008 to 2013. Stationed at Langley in 1970s. Good facilities for Army post. Joint base with Langley AFB. Local area, Tidewater, is great for families. Lots of historical places. Good beaches. Good seafood. Military friendly. Several headquarters on post. Army Transportation Museum is interesting. Norfolk area across James River provides additional job opportunities, shopping, large airport. Recommend living on Newport News side of river due to traffic.

Try to look for housing north of Fort Eustis. Going south will cause you headaches with traffic and road construction.

LCpl Ferdinand Hughes : agree with your assessment. Traffic south of Ft Eustis in a disaster during morning and evening rush.

I used to live in Virginia Beach, -actually from Virginia Beach. I used to work at thecMILPO, student reassignements for aviation MOS. I used drive that afternoon traffic going across the HRBT everyday. I don't miss it. Lt Col Jim Coe -

My wife is there right now in AIT. She says it's just really freakin cold right now. Other than that no complaints.

Cold is something I'm really not worried about. I was born and raised in Pennsylvania for the first 19 years of my life and now I'm stationed in Korea, and it gets cold over here.

Yeah, the area there is really good. The post kind of looked like it needed some upgrades but other than that, it was decent. Oh, and trees.... a lot of freaking trees!
