Okay, so check it out. I just talked to one of my recruiter buddies down here. According to USAREC (US Army Recruiting Command), there are 11 series slots out the wazoo. However, if your recruiter is telling you there aren't, it's because they need numbers elsewhere. Recruiters have quotas, and they are supposed to meet certain criteria per quarter / per year. Go talk to another recruiter, and find an NCO that ISN'T a recruiter and have them go with you. They are less likely to BS you, if you have someone with similar or more authority than them. Most recruiters are E-6 (SSG), so finding an E-7 (SFC) or above would typically put a recruiter on his toes. Conversely however, it could also make that recruiter not want to work with you, so stick to E-5/E-6. Someone who knows the ropes and won't take the BS, but isn't an intimidating figure. If this is the path you want, feel free to message me, and I will help you get squared away with what you need to be successful in this line of work.

Best of luck to ya, brother.

SFC Joseph Weber - I think it was an 89 in the CO. If they had passing QT to begin with. Color blindness and vision not correctable to 20/20 in one eye is a DQ for infantry too. Bottom line, we don't know this guys qualifications and there is probably more to the story than some lazy recruiter "BS'ing" him as was suggested.

SFC J Fullerton - For sure. Even though I did not like recruiting I understand the stress and craziness that recruiters go through and have a lot of sympathy for them.

SFC J Fullerton, I take it you are, or were a recruiter? Now, the information that I passed on -- before you sink your brain into the idea that I am simply spreading BS across RallyPoint -- came to me from a recruiter. Now, he may have a shop quota, he may simply have been telling me some answer to give this kid that is satisfactory enough to shut him up. I don't know. But this is the information I was given when I asked, on his behalf. If it is not factual in nature, then it was passed along in good faith that an SME would know and likewise pass along the right information.

SPC (Join to see) - Yes, like many career NCO's I got snatched by USAREC. Recruiters get labeled with a bad rep just for being on recruiting duty. They got a tough job as it is, I am sure your friend can attest to that. I don't think it is a fair assumption that a recruiter is "BS'ing" someone without knowing the facts. Suggesting to a potential prospect that a recruiter can't be trusted and he needs to find someone who is not a recruiter to help is detrimental to the recruiting effort and disrespectful to your fellow Soldiers who happen to be on recruiting duty.

While anything is possible, most things are not likley.
Its possible there will be no 11X or 11B slots available, but not likley.
Its possible there will be no 11X or 11B slots available with a waiver, but not likley.

Your enlistment option will lock in something....but not everything..
So guaranteed training, but not assignment location.
Guaranteed assignment location, but not training.
So you might ask for and get AIRBORNE TRAINING in your contract,,,then get assigned to a non airborne unit. There is no guarantee you will get to USE the training, just that you will get it.

An assignment might be guaranteed, and the week you get there the unit deployed to Korea , germany, NTC for 6 months.. you get back and find you on orders for a new duty station ....your only stabilized at a duty station for 18 months (reality is you are not getting an assignment orders 12 months out...but anything is possible)
The available enlistment options are perishable, so what was true yesterday may not be available today...but dont let that lead you to a quick and rushed decision.. the recruiter is not lying when they say, choose this NOW as it's available, it could be gone as an option tomorrow... what they may not say is, with common MOS's that are high density (lots of positions) all you have to do is sit back and wait a bit and something will open back up.

"So you might ask for and get AIRBORNE TRAINING in your contract..."

Right there, my greatest Army regret. Not that I wanted to sit in Airborne hold for months on end as some of my OSUT buddies did, but I wished I had known to put Airborne in my contract. I tried to secure a slot in the intervening years, but it wasn't to be.

Do I fill out a Hurt Feelings report on this?
LOL
