I need to switch from National Guard to Active Duty. What are some ways to go about it?

I'm aware that I can put through forms to attempt to transfer, but it sounds like there rarely approved. Especially because I received a signing bonus with my MOS. Ive heard rumors that becoming an officer would aid this process. I'm willing to do anything to switch, because I have a very long contract of 6 years with the National Guard.

All you can do is submit a Conditional Release request and have it sent up the chain. Regardless of what it sounds like if they are not approved, you should still make the attempt. More often than not, the reason why they are denied is because the SM is needed in that unit in that slot. As for the bonus, you would lose the bonus and probably have to pay back any amount you've already received. One thing you can do, along with submitting the Conditional Release, is to sit down with your Chain (Officers and NCOs combined) and state your case as to why they should approve your request.

Go see a recruiter. They well help you with the process. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. There thousands of posts like this on RP. Conditional Release DD368

1. Hate to till you but 6 yrs is not a long contract. 2. Since the NG gave you a bonus, they may demand re-payment. 3. All you can do is submit the paperwork- it's up to the state if they will allow it.

Have you considered volunteering for a Mobilization? MOBCOP / Tour of Duty, dod.pfi.mil and the NGB website have opportunities posted. More than likely this would get you everything you're looking for.
