First, you must find a unit that has an open slot for your rank and MOS. Then you need to speak with that unit and find out if they'd be willing to take you. Then you'd need to talk with your current Commander to see if they'd be willing to let you go. Now, if you do end up in a unit that is Airborne and they require you to be Airborne qualified...and you're not Airborne....guess where you'd be going.? To Airborne school.

SPC (Join to see) - Bear in mind that at no time is the "gaining unit" required to accept you and at no time is the "losing unit" required to release you.

PFC Gomez,
Great question and it seems that you have your answer based on the previous post. I want to encourage you to continue to train hard and become knowledgeable in your MOS. You ever though about going to Ranger School?

Yes definitely it my current unit in the Puerto Rico national guard seems to avoid the subject I asked multiple times for ranger they laughed in my face and when I asked for airborne they said good luck with that’s why I’m looking for a transfer and moving to another state I want to progress and become a more knowledgeable infantryman and my current unit is getting in the way instead of helping me accomplish that

What the process others did in your Unit to go to Ranger School or Airborne, moving is not the answer, it would be to find out how and why others got it and do that same process. You do have to prepare for the School.

I recently commenced an interstate transfer process to transfer to Texas National Guard. Can I request a specific unit?

Yes but the caveat to the unit you are thinking about is they have to accept you. When transitioning to the ARNG, the slots within those units are interview only slots, meaning the unit has to accept you. I've never put anyone in that particular unit, but in discussing it with other Reserve Counselors, they use a scoring system and if you are not Airborne or Ranger qualified they generally will not accept you.

Yes, especially at your rank. 1. Find the unit to which you would like to transfer. 2. Call their full-time staff to ensure they have an open slot and are willing to accept you. 3. Get the para/line for that slot and pass it on to your IST coordinator.

It's a pretty easy process as an E1-E4, when you get above that it's a little harder to find an opening because they like to promote NCOs internally. When I was in the LRS company in Indiana, we had soldiers transfer in taking reductions from E6 down to E4 just so they could get in.

I was not aware of the 142nd RGT until today.
They are in about 12 locations is Texas so I'm sure you can find a slot.
Good Luck

1. Is there still an ABN unit in TX guard? 2. Will they pay for you to go to ABN School. Do they have an Abn Slot for you to fill? As for a specfic unit you will have to talk to their S1 or CSM before you in process.
