Bring a fully charged portable charger, pen, paper/envelopes and stamps. You’ll be in quarantine/controlled monitoring for the first two weeks, and you won't go to the Px until that period is over. So bring travel sized toiletries to last two weeks. No haircuts till monitoring is over, so if your hair is going to get u noticed, go get it cut now.

Humm. Back in 1962 everything I brought to "boot" had to be sent home except my tooth brush, tooth paste, razor, and wallet. Oh yes, keep the comb, but you won't need it for the first two months. If you'd given yourself a little time you might have spent your last two weeks before shipping out making sure you were in reasonably good physical shape. Too late now. SFC Davila's advise is spot on. "mouth shut, ears open". Since we live in the era of COVID-19 PV2 Tyler's advise seems appropriate too. I'm not sure what boot camp is like now a days. But, I will say that that the term "cleanliness is next to Godliness" could have originated in boot camp inspections. And don't forget that anything stupid you do is often paid for by everyone in your platoon.

Don't volunteer for anything, and do what the DI tells you and shows you.

Volunteering for a mystery detail during OSUT allowed me to attend a Charlie Daniels concert(clean up crew) while the rest of the company got smoked. I have an autographed picture from the man himself. I encourage volunteering.

SPC Cathy Goessman - Some volunteering can be great, when I went thru basic 43 years ago, you stepped back to let someone else be picked.

Sometimes you end up filling sandbags or other stuff that sucks but my batting average was pretty good with volunteering. Other times I ended up distributing flyers for BOSS. An hour walking around a few barracks buildings shoving flyers on doors and then released until lunch.
