Before you move, work with your unit and state to get the release and find a unit to go to prior to moving. Go through the procedures you need to get done or suffer the repercussions. I have seen people move states, and then haven't done the transfer and have to go back to the original state as they never left the unit. That can get expensive fast.

To add: I moved 12 hours away for college but my first unit made it sound like it was unheard of, so I just went ahead and transferred. I

The college situation sounds like it would be understood by your Chain. As others have recommended, use your chain and be transparent. Best of luck.

I don't believe there's a set amount of transfers per contract. Obviously you want to try to limit it as much as possible but as long as you're not flagged you should be good. May also look to split train in advance if you can in case its a lengthy process.
