Is it possible re-enlist back into the Army National Guard after having already retired from it? If so, what is the process?

I honorably retired from the Army National Guard with 25 1/2 years as a E-8/1SG. I'm about to retire from my civilian employer and would like to re-enlist back into the ARNG, is this possible?

1SG Albert Archuleta, if you haven't started collecting retired pay, then in most cases you can (as long as you weren't put out adversely or by law). Of course, you'll have to meet all the enlistment criteria again (medical fitness, etc.), but you could do it. If you have started collecting retired pay, then very unlikely (must have a SECARMY finding that they need you because there is nobody else with the rank and skills they need).
To your next question, how would you go about doing it? If you're applying for a TPU position, then you'll do it though the unit. If you're going for an IMA position, then you'll go through HRC.
AR 140-10* Chapter 6 addresses the process for the USAR. The process should be the same for the Army National Guard (a reference* states it is possible, but doesn't lay out the process) as the verbiage used in both references is the same.

Thank you, CPT Lawrence. In the beginning phases of the COVIOD 1 Pandemic, I received a letter from DFAS asking all honorably retired senior NCOs to reenlist for assistance in standing up the multitude of task forces.

CPT Lawrence Cable - I believe the actual term you are mentioning is/was "Retiree Recall" and was used some during OIF and OEF. Not sure if HRC/Army is using it during peace time. I was one of those that spent 6 years as a Retiree Recall. Officially MRD in Feb. 2008 and volunteered for recall 2 months later, then retired again in 2014. Several rules do apply; Gray area retiree (not collecting pension), you come back in as your last rank, cannot get promoted or go before a promotion board, do not receive an OER or EER, must still meet height and weight but not required to take APFT. Still eligible for awards/medals. Time did count toward addition retirement points and because of the law past in 2008 one could collect pension earlier than 60 base on the number of months you served on AD.

LTC Jorge Cordero - That was the program and I went back and looked at the time frame and it was more in line with when you were recalled. Army Reserve were the ones that contacted me, it seemed that they had a bunch of AGR slots open in that Captain/Major rank and they were looking for bodies. I didn't take it.

1SG Albert Archuleta There’s always the option to join the Texas State Guard which has no effect on your VA nor your retirement payments. They always need great leaders.
