A DD214 is only a authorized for periods of active duty service of 90 consecutive days or longer.

I never knew that. I thought everyone got one when they got released from active duty, discharged or retired. Learn something new every day (as I always tell my students!).

Cpl Vic Burk - Yeah, It was something I learned on the civilian side when I got my GS position with HR. Learned real quick troops did not get a DD214 when they ETS or Retired from the Reserves. All they get are Orders.

You do not get a DD214 when leaving the Reserves. You receive retirement orders.
DD214s are for leaving active military service.

Funny thing is they call all your active duty time ADT Active Duty Training, and Active Duty never train like this or experience this, back and forth transition from active duty operaitonal training stressors, and back to your normal now confusing civilian life, with a sore back and other conditions that are confusing to understand, just 19 years old, back and forth like a light switch, from 100000000 million miles and hour to 0, which if your ADT orders are kept under 2 years of back to back days, over a 8 year reserve obligation enlistment, won't even qualify for a homeless housing voucher at the VA with no regard of what your duty assignment was and the things you experiecned

This was my problem at the VA getting a homeless housing voucher, waiting 4 years of denials, because of this DD214 thing and a reserve enlistment that was honorable
