Is the soldier exempt from paying the bonus back or do they pay it back based off of the number of years that they did not fulfill for which they re enlisted for?

No they do not. It’s in AR 601-280. A Soldier will not pay back a reenlistment bonus when the Soldier Commissions, moves into a more critical MOS, or when the Soldier is not at fault for the separation

Thank you very much SFC Boyd.
No. Do to no fault of your own your career was cut short due to a medical issue. Where are you in the MEB process? I am curious because I went through a MEB as well.

I’m not actually going through it. I know an individual in that situation and I am trying to educate myself on this just incase I need this information in the future for a soldier of mine.
