If you read Once an Eagle, you know the hero was up and down in permanent and temporary ranks based on the needs of the military...but you might not know that one of my personal heroes, Gen. Andrew Goodpaster (SACEUR) took a downgrade to 3- star rank to command his beloved West Point. If we had full mobilization or even partial mobilization, what about you?

Yes. I would be more than happy to serve in any capacity required. It's about the mission.

I don't know if I'd have the patience to serve in an Active Duty capacity anymore but if the need were great enough...maybe. I'd want to keep my rank though.

I am old and fat. I would come back as an E-1 if needed and they could actually use me. Rank has nothing to do with it.

I would go back in a heartbeat. Not to sure about dropping a rank though. I was SGT/E-5 when i was wounded in Iraq and was ultimately medically retired after a fight to stay in. I was able to take better care of my troops as an NCO and did just that. I was threatened with loss of rank more than once due to having a soldiers back when I knew they were being ran through the ringer. With that said, I was also there to hammer their asses if they indeed were in the wrong. I would need to come in as NCO again to make sure I could have a voice in how my troops didnt get unfairly treated just to satisfy someone elses political agenda to benifit themselves.
