If America needs you again, would you be willing to return to active duty one grade lower?

If you read Once an Eagle, you know the hero was up and down in permanent and temporary ranks based on the needs of the military...but you might not know that one of my personal heroes, Gen. Andrew Goodpaster (SACEUR) took a downgrade to 3- star rank to command his beloved West Point. If we had full mobilization or even partial mobilization, what about you?

I do not regret my former enlistment at all, but I manned-up and did my time in the grunts, and since then it has been youngsters time to follow suit...and these days I unfortunately have to add that I hope the military these days can find more people wanting to do it because they have heart, and not merely seeking school funding or VA Healthcare.
If I were truly needed again, I would surely consider it---after the current folks in the White House are long gone.

it all depends on WHO is leading the charge - to go BLINDLY into battle with no clear cut objectives (real and stated strategy) is ill-advised.(current day reality- case in point)

I'd go and by the time the Army calls me back it might be for somethign major, and I am not sure what that might be, but I would gladly go.

I traded a stripe to change branches after I got out of the Navy. I could have kept it to stay in the US Naval Reserve. I changed to FL Air Guard. It was something I was willing to do to continue to serve my country.

I would, if called, but I am old enough now that even though I can still fit my uniform and I can still pass a PT test, I don't think they would call me.

Now, I don't deserve NCO slot at all. I have always said, if I was a Manager, I would have to fire myself right off the bat. I know how much of trouble maker I can be.

If I had to. It wouldn't take long for me to make rate again, but I've got quite a bit done since I left and I think I would be more valuable a few pay grades up.
