No, you must pass the audition, not all jobs in the Army are entry level positions. Most musicians in the Army have a degree in music and a decade or so of experience in multiple instruments.

That is exactly what a personal friend of mine was. Made E6 as a musician but went in with 4 instruments under his belt AFTER a degree in music (probably to pay for his degree), and is currently with the Utah Symphony. That's what prospective military musicians are up against.

Don't know about the Army for sure, but the Air Force requires auditions. Those who exhibit talent, skills, and abilities in music may be selected to joint Air Force musical organizations. I the prospective member has enough talent and experience, they may come into the Air Force well above E-1.
If you're interested in military music programs, look into the types of support personnel working with the bands and vocal groups. I suspect they have admin, supply, transportation, and electronics technicians assigned to the units to support the performing artists.

Sir,
forgot to tell you, during Basic Training musicians come in as an E-3. If they have a Bachelor's degree, E-4. If the SM made it to their branch Premier bands, they get promoted to E-6 immediately upon Basic graduation. All others, once they complete Basic they go to the Schools of Music. Once they get assigned to their Band, they're promoted to E-4. Nice work if you can get it, and you can get it if you pass the audition! LOL

You must pass the audition to get the MOS. If you can't pass the audition, you won't get the job.
