If I commission in the Guard and branch infantry, will I retain my branch if I go Active Duty at the end of my Guard contract?

MAJ Ronnie Reams - I have seen that once. We had the AG in the NCNG wear one star when it went overseas to support a federal mission but when he was home he wore two stars. It is pretty rare to see that. The federal government aligned promotions in the Guard with Federal timelines. I can't say I have ever seen anyone get promoted at the state level without their FEDREC packet coming back. I have seen a few Soldiers wearing the rank before their position due to waiting for their FEDREC.

SFC (Join to see) yes, I don't think he wants to drill in Hawaii. My civil Affairs company Commander was Ranger, Airborne, Pathfinder, 11 Bravo, and Civil Affairs and later he was the S3 for a logistics Regional support group Army reserve unit located at Camp Pendleton. He got the advanced operation course out of the way and maybe and was able to be a logistics Battalion Commander or Deputy commander of a regional support group. My point is that all roads lead to Logistics. I know that in the California National Guard oh, you have to spend time at Sacramento before you could be given a battalion command. This happened to a friend of mine who was ordinance.
Also, those soldiers in the guard who wants to take CGSOC, don't get paid for it. If they are holding a leadership position, they have to do their leadership in the guard and they have to go complete Command and general staff officer course for free.

In 2015-2018 I was an OC/T with the 84th training command and they didn't mind if I missed their drill because to them, the mission was not as important as your school but not so in the National Guard. At least in California last National Army National Guard.

The National Guard has the Combat Arms, Infantry, Armor and Artillery but I was delayed to CPT for 2 years due to Politics in the ARNG. If you ever are selected for a higher position, you can always go into the IRR and take it then. I knew an exceptional Armor Officer who got selected to Major and he has 2 Master's Degrees. He was Vietnamese and that good ole boy mentality meant he could not get a slot so he went into the IRR to get it.

LTC (Join to see) I completely understand the voice of reason. Every day I sit across from Soldiers and explain to them how their "plans" aren't really plans, just hopeful wishes. It's like every other question on here where a kid asks about Option 40/18X contract and I explain how 90% of the people fail

SFC (Join to see) Jason, I have appreciated all your active duty knowledge and I combine my Reserve component knowledge and my difficult experiences the National Guard to try to help those avoid the same pitfalls. I think this discussion will help many in the future. It's amazing how articles that I posted or as four to five years ago, are still being acknowledged today.
