If I'm within a year of ETS and have a code 13 on my ERB (potential for QMP), must I re-enlist in order to be promoted?

I just passed the promotion board to E6 yesterday but i have a code 13 on my ERB (potential for QMP). I was told by my PSG that my CO informed him i will not be allowed to pin E6 unless i re-enlist. My ETS is not until december 2018 and I already have ALC completed. Is this even allowed?

None of this adds up correctly. SGTs (E5) are not reviewed for QMP, that happens at centralized promotion boards. Go see your unit S-1 and career counselor to get further clarification of the code on your record and to ensure you don’t have a SRR (service remaining requirement).

I had gotten in trouble a few months back which led to a reduction from E6 to E5 and I was notified by HQDA that i was being looked at for QMP this February.

Ahhh that makes some more sense. Bro QMP is a bitch. Everyone who says to keep your nose clean and stuff haven’t had hiccups in their careers. Good luck with the QMP

It has been a long time ago for me but if I remember correctly a minimum service required after promotion is 2 years. I made the E-9 list in 1970 with about a year to go on my last hitch. I was told I would make E-9 in about a year if I reenlisted and that I would be required to serve in the E-9 grade for at least 2 years before I could retire with E-9 retirement pay. I took retirement in 1971and passed up the promotion. No regrets.
