Please tell us you have NOT signed a lease - nor bought a car - without getting guidance from your NCO's - I know it sounds like us NCO's want to tell you how to make decisions, but that is not the case - we want to protect you from sharks that prey on new and young privates who make you think they are looking out for you. Once you sign something - there is absolutely nothing we can do.

Don't new arrivals (e.g., first duty station, etc.) get some kind of presentation on personal finances during check-in? It's >30 yr since I departed the Navy, but being among Marines between 2000 & 2017 & some TAD to LeJeune impressed on me that young servicemembers (how many Pvts & LCpls stood at MSgt's cube & tried to explain their sordid circumstances?) are still prone to thriftlessness & the lure of spending a first regular paycheck & of "we finance E-1 & up!"
USMC working for some years now to produce the "command financial spec.," to provide some counsel to junior ranks on installment plans & leases. Very minimum be able to provide personal budget advice. Unfortunately, back in the day, young sailors came a'knockin' only after being locked out of apartments or after living (too often with wife & child) in an about-to-be-repossessed car for a week. Only got uglier after that.

I would check with your leadership before signing a lease, because I'm pretty sure Army regs require you to stay in the barracks unless you have a wife and or kids.

I concur and No you don’t have to move out of the barrack but you must pay the rent there while under lease! Also being a private you shouldn’t be authorized to move off base unless married or have kids!

If you are not receiving BAH, you will be required to maintain a barracks room.
I had this same situation with a Soldier once. Just like 1LT Spencer Rapone stated your leadership not have to allow you to reside off the installation, even though you signed a lease. If you are squared away and are NEVER late, than most leaders wouldn't mind.
Thing is, you're a PV2, it is not financially responsible to attempt to maintain a household off the installation. Best advice: Save your money and invest in your future. If you are hell bent on trying to attain living quarters off post, talk to someone doing it in your area, there are a lot of costs involved.

Thanks for proving my point. Now I wonder how you really became a Staff Sergeant. You might wanna have that look at before it gets infected.

Why you keep looking at my profile? Stalking much!!! You remind me of every so-called with chip on their shoulder who always wanted to have me fired but end up getting fired themselves for being a bunch of dumbasses. You are not the first or the last who would try to cross paths with the crazy Puerto Rican like my buddy used to called me back at Hood. I’m sure it must pissed you off every time you have a troop who called you when you are wrong. Welcome to the Army brother, I would still die for you even though I don’t like your guts.
