If my spouse and I are stationed apart, will I be authorized to live in housing (or off post) or will I be required to live in the barracks?

Or you can say, you have your child with you....(also horrible advice). Integrity!!!!

Let’s not forget that both service members must have a family plan approved by their command. If not they could be forced out.

MSgt (Join to see) you should have seen base housing at Camp Pendleton in the early 1980’s!
It was so bad even the rats and roaches wouldn’t live there (built in the late 30’s)

MSgt (Join to see) - I twice had Air Force billets condemned while I was living in them! The first time was in basic training at Lackland AFB (1984). Our building wasn't very old, but it was apparently sinking. The second time was at Lowry AFB (1985). Our dorms were in a two-story wooden temporary building that was many years past it's expected life. They had nowhere else to put us, so I was kicked off base and given BAQ (BAH) as an E-3 without dependents. I never lived in government quarters again for the rest of my career except when TDY or deployed.

I recall living in the barracks as a geographical bachelor. It made life some what easier because then we had no rent to worry about because she owned her place.

I recall when I served, if you were seperated you likely lived in the barracks.. with a room to yourself if you were E-4 or higher... You COULD live off base, but paying rent on two places (stateside, and overseas) was usually too much money for most people to pay for...even at a E-7 salary in 1985....

The army no longer does geo batchelor even if you have to pay for two houses you may not live in the berracks

When I was stationed as cadre in airborne school from 84-86 I was true bachelor and ended up displacing geographic bachelors to get private room with shower because I was only true bachelor. I was E-1 to E-4 and all geographic bachelors were E-6+ and were they pissed. Loved it.
