If someone asked what could you have done differently in your military career, what would you have chosen?

Things couldn't have worked out better . . . and with no planning at all. I served my four years as a grunt, came home to a crap job situation, met my dream girl who inspired me to be way better than I thought I could ever be. Had a great, 40-year career as a sports writer and retired. We're still together 55 years later. I've thought about different scenarios and their outcomes and my only conclusion is I wouldn't have met her and that was the key moment of my life.

Not gotten married.

I would like to go back and re up and get back to the job I loved,AMH. I have an aircraft and helicopters fettish. I think I would have swapped P-3 Orion's to work on helicopters though. I could have used the experience and training to use it in the real world. But I chose one and a W.U.

I should have accepted that transfer to Alaska and gotten my promotion to E-7. I choose my family, but I hate being a civilian. Boring out here.

I wouldn't do anything different, no regrets...good or not so good. These experiences made me who I am today.

I would have stayed in

Really don't know. Being a medic was all i ever wanted. There are times that I question whether everything that could possibly have been done. When you lose a person, you'll almost always question your actions. The losses never go away.

I would have turned in my squad leader who sexually assaulted me. I would have turned in my whole command(SFC,SSG,SGT my team) who did nothing to help me after I was sexually assaulted by Jordian soldiers x2 to my CO when we got back from the mission. I would have claimed it all when I got out on my medical discharge.

On the whole, a fantastic career. I did things and saw places I never imagined I would do/see. Things to do different? Not have gotten married as young as I did and saved money which a young SM rarely does (at least back then - so proud to see young SM saving like fiends these days)

I would have stayed in and re-enlisted. I was on the fast track and moving up quickly but youth and ego won.
