If you could get rid of one regulation, standard, policy, or procedure, what would it be?

I would get rid of the promotion board system in favor of something more objective like the testing that the USAF has. There is a lot of favoritism that takes place before and during promotion boards and it just perpetuates a kind of good ol' boy system. I think that an impartial system that measures your knowledge and potential without any personal bias would promote only those that should be promoted instead of the guys and gals that are just really good at making friends.

Being a bad tester is just a way of saying that you fail to be able to demonstrate the appropriate knowledge when put into a particular situation in which case you shouldn't be promoted anyways. If you are unable to, under a minimally stressful situation, demonstrate the appropriate knowledge for promotion, then who is to say that you won't fail to perform under the potential stress associated with performing your duties in a wartime situation. Argument lost. Thanks for playing. Bad tester=Not fit to lead in military.

MSG (Join to see) - I hope what he means is guys that have no problem passing the PT test but have 20 lbs of muscle that put them in the over weight category, which I would agree is absurd.

I had to be taped every time. My nephew who is an airborne instructor also has to be taped every time.

I would allow male military personnel to grow a well groomed beard. We’re the only country that thinks that having their military members clean shaven makes for a more professional service. It’s simply NOT true. Actually, many of our younger military members look as though they signed up while in grade school. Having a beard would help make them a bit older. It would also keep our Sailors and soldiers from sorely standing out in areas where there could be even the slightest chance of a threat against them. A beard does NOT make a person look unprofessional unless that beard is unkempt vice being properly groomed. Additionally, we have no problem allowing female warriors to wear makeup, paint their nails, etc…, yet we hold male warriors to a much stricter standard. That’s completely unfair, especially considering that a beard is a physical part of a man’s body, vice make-up which is obviously applied. And then there’s the completely unjustified religious exemption that allows a male is of a certain religion a free pass from being held to the same standards as everyone else. Frankly, that’s blatant religious DISCRIMINATION that shouldn’t be tolerated, ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THAT THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES FORBIDS the government from making ANY laws, rules, etc… BASED ON RELIGION. Yet that’s EXACTLY what the military has allowed to happen. It’s a double standard and it’s completely UNJUSTIFIED and frankly, violates the Constitution.
I’ve heard the argument about how gas mask won’t seal with a beard. And there’s some truth to that, but such a beard would be WELL PAST ANY ACCEPTABLE STANDARD of the military to begin with.. I own the same AVON gas mask that’s in current use by the military. I’m also certified for fitting of personal protective equipment, including mask. And I have a beard. My gas mask seals with no issues whatsoever. Not only does it collapse around my face when the filters are removed, but trying to get ANY air past my beard while inhaling strains the muscles in my chest. The mask’s outside ambient air pressure would have to be unrealistically high while the inside ambient air pressure was practically zero in order for anything to get past the seal, even with a well groomed beard. Such an environment simply doesn’t exist anywhere on this planet where a gas mask would be used to begin with. The argument simply doesn’t hold up to reality. The seal on today’s AVON mask is more than adequate to obtain an effective seal, even with a well groomed beard. It’s time we stop making our younger military members continue to look like they’ve been kidnapped from their grade school. If we want our male members to act like the men they’re supposed to be, then perhaps we should allow them to look the part as well. Every other countries’ militaries are allowed to grow beards EXCEPT that of our own. They have the same firefighting and gas mask issues as our own military, yet somehow they’ve managed to allow their members to look like the adults we expect our military members to act

The Army has an actual regulation that once upon a time said it was illegal for anyone dressed as Santa Claus to fly in an Army helicopter.......
Also the regulation about Hair it’s dumb too and the pocket ones because even some sargeant majors thinks that’s dumb

Headphones and earphones and phone regulations...they don’t really jeopardize the mission when you’re not in a mission so why can’t we use them while walking or anything???
