There is a current list of authorized aftermarket boots out now. Check it out. As far as the one reg to remove.......having to be shaven off duty/weekends/ on leave.

Another vote for beards. As others have said , pro-masks will seal with a beard. As long as a length limit is place on it and it’s neatly shaped and trimmed, why not? No beards is a recent development. Other western armies are allowed beards and they still look professional.

Most of the world's armies are not America's armed forces. Besides the gas attack issue, the more hair on your face to catch on fire the uglier you will be after the beard blaze. Then there is the issue of pests, which is a big reason why combat arms folks have really short hair as well. It is also easier to identify a person without a beard, which is a serious concern when trying to decide if the guy walking up to the checkpoint is someone you recognize or someone with a stolen uniform. I could probably come up with another dozen reasons beards present problems, particularly in combat arms, but I would say the identification issue is the most important reason.

I would take out the new tattoo policy and add the use of earrings in ACU while in Garrison duties. It could be exactly as the regulation for earrings with ASU that specify size, diameter and shape. I know females are minority and anything regarding females it's always taken in a negative way. This is just me.

Joseph Baker, no. Gauges are not allowed and the earrings we can wear in ASUs have to be circular and 1/4 inch in diameter. Very tasteful and modest in my opinion.

It's funny but Navy women can wear earrings in all uniforms. Silver for E6 and below and gold for E7 and above. They sold a certain style earring in the Uniform Shop. They had to be 6mm and mate (brushed silver/gold) in dinner dress they were pearls for all ranks.

I think army is the only branch that doesn't allow earrings in daily uniform.
That being said (and maybe I've been in too long) but I don't really agree with earrings in uniform. It just feels..... unprofessional. I think that just may be the fact I've never done it though.

Yeah, Navy and Air Force can wear earrings. It's irritating to have to keep earrings in overnight to keep the holes open, but not be able to wear them the majority of the time. It makes sense for field ops and deployments, but not for garrison.

I'm out so, I would change the regulation to read each service member will wear at all times no less than Four reflector belts. They will be worn one around the waist, 2 cross crossed over the shoulders, crossing at the middle of the chest and back, and one around the fourheaf 1/4" above the eyebrows, parallel with the ground.

True story, I watched my previous SGM during swim PT wearing his reflector/power belt in the pool. Bragg has done away with them in traffic controlled areas.

I would change so much, not just one! This is my Army-specific list since that's where I spent my time:
* Hands in pockets
* Boonie cap can be adopted at unit CDR discretion
* Neat, trimmed facial hair for males
* Females can have pony tails any time
* In garrison, jewelry, makeup, hair can be "whatev" (strict tactical in field)
* Black boots with dress uniform!
* All combat arms have branch-of-service cords like the blue infantry cord.
* Once you ear a combat arms cord (ie, infantry blue cord) it stays with you forever unless you muck something up and get your combat arms MOS revoked
annnnnd...
* Replace beret with Cav Stetson (okay, haha, just joking on that last one)

The comments about jack boots and jodhpurs, and the original comment about the Cav hat of course Of the list probably the black boots with dress uniforms is the most flexible. I know it doesn't entirely look "right" but it's better than the shoes which (as mentioned) make it seem more like a business suit.
Personally I think the rest would be quite reasonable, which is probably why they don't let me edit the AR-670/1, heh.

I personally like my boots with my uniform. The shoes are silly. And make up? We don't need anymore clowns in the Army. Have you seen what girls are putting on their face now a days? No thank you. I'm all about the natural look. "Hold on guys my mascara is running"

I hate the ponytail being allowed in pt. It gets so tangled - a bun is much more out of the way!

SGT (Join to see) - Good point on the makeup-- the Tammy Faye Bakker look is something I hadn't considered. I figured at worse we'd have a lot of "Goths" but... that... well, it doesn't really bother me much.

Back to BDUs and Spit shined boots. In the Regiment it was referred to as "Spits and Starches". It is a very professional and clean look. I see too many folks in their wash and wears that look like they just came off a dirty floor. Taking time to look professional is always a good thing. If you think shining boots is a pain in the ass, don't ever join The Old Guard!

I like the AF Tiger stripes (remember Tiger Stripes work best when you are prone.) and their boots seem taller than the Army. All the services should wear the same. And stripes on the sleeves, the blue looks good

PFC Charles Sanders - it was not pointless, it was about being professional, and about pride in ones self and self respect. I look at Some Solders today and shake my head, they look like dirtbags.

1SG, I understand that. It should take a backseat to the mission, however. In my limited experience it didn't. When I started seeing soldiers that weren't worth a rat's behind get promoted over better soldiers that actually knew their jobs and were far better at what they did, simply because they showed up to the board with a snazzy looking set of BDUs it turned my stomach. Sorry if I'm a bit more practical, but I think appearance should come AFTER your ability to actually do your job. ISIS and the Taliban don't quiver at our spitshined boots. They don't run from a can of starch and an iron. Soldiers looking professional didn't become important until European monarchs started trying to outdo one another in every way. I'd rather have a scarred and tatted up warrior with a wrinkled uniform who'll stand and fight than some pansy in a bow tie that tucks tail and runs. Yes, I agree that self-respect and attention to detail should be taught. There's also more than one way to skin a cat (I know at least 3)...

Bring back tropical uniforms with shorts. Maybe flips flops and a camo polo. A beard would be nice.

Thats how my first assistant navigator retired, Cheif who had been in for 24 years.... he kept getting denied when he started putting in retirement packages in at 20.

When I was stationed at Roosevelt Roads PR the Navy allowed Shorts. I never wore them though. I couldn't get past the knee socks. Because I worked at the hospital we wore our whites... And black knee socks with a white uniform... Just couldn't do it. Chiefs and I'd got white knee socks and sites which looked better.

I want the army to approve the wear of doo rags in uniform. But only as an alternative to the Beret in ASUs. Much professionalism. Very tactics. Wow.

MAJ John Adams
Would the do-rags be in branch colors, or a uniform color across the Army? Patterned or solid colors? I'd like a do-rag with a tricorn myself, but then I WAS a cavalryman. We've always been a little different.

Id visit the aid station and get a sling, insta OD in the system do-rag, tuck the tail in your shirt. they only cared that it be green while in the field

Since the beret is the most useless form of headgear I have ever seen, why not authorize doo rags? Standards of appearance and civility are already in the dumpster so what could it hurt?
