Not being a Guardsman my opinion doesn't carry much weight, but I would do the 10yrs and retire with the AD Retirement.  It must be a popular choice because the Pentagon is filled with NG guys trying to do just that.

That is so very true. It is not a bad gig if you can get it but a lot like to homestead and forget what goes on in the real world (i.e. back in the units).

I would go on active duty for the ten years and then retire with am active duty retirement!

This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill – the story ends, you wake up in your bed when you turn 60 and your retirement payments begin. You take the red pill – you go to the Puzzle Palace for the next 10 years, and you see just how far the hypocrisy goes. Remember, all you've been offered is a choice – nothing more.

Lt Col John,

I would go into the Guards, run for Congress and leave DA, Dept of Army, Pentagon alone...far far away.
