If you could retire as a Guardsman now; or, spend 10 yrs. at the Pentagon and retire with an AD retirement, what would you do?

Not being a Guardsman my opinion doesn't carry much weight, but I would do the 10yrs and retire with the AD Retirement. It must be a popular choice because the Pentagon is filled with NG guys trying to do just that.

That is so very true. It is not a bad gig if you can get it but a lot like to homestead and forget what goes on in the real world (i.e. back in the units).

Easy choice, being born and raised in DC, I would take the Pentagon and immediate payment upon retirement and still continue to live at home before and after retirement.
Also was regular and AGR in DC as well, so I have seen both sides of the coin for the area as well, and would still choose Pentagon duty over retiring as a guardsman.

With those as my only options, I would go for non-regular retirement.

I retired 44years ago after 22 years in the US Army ( Infantry type), so I don't think any of this would apply to me. Thanks to all who serve.
