We sometimes waste time and money trying to train people in the "one size fits all " leadership school. However, some people will never be leaders. Yet, they might make good followers--followers are underrated. What is the solution?

I have had the distinct pleasure of working with two PFCs who I doubt would make it very high up the food chain. What they lacked in future capacity, they sure made it up with great attitudes. When told to complete a task they would smile and get right on it. They were superb soldiers.

MAJ Ken Landgren, Agreed! Some of the ones that should be denied re-enlistment were the most reliable. One track minds and not easily distracted.

CSM Charles Hayden - You hit the target. Endeavoring to lead is much easier when you have motivated soldiers who enjoy the Army and their life. They are told something and reply, "Yes SGT!" and genuinely cares for his teammates and leaders.

Some of the most disciplined soldiers were the dumbest ones that I have met. They never question authority and can execute any task to and often above the standard. The only thing I hope is that they gain a little sense before they become a leader.

There are many types of intelligence, and stupidity. Good followers make the best leaders.

If a person isn't a good ___________, they shouldn't be in that position. I have removed people from positions as well, and in the end the unit (or organization) is better for it.

Everyone can have value, but not everyone is a leader. Not everyone is a great technician. Not everyone is a PT stud. Find the place where the person can be of value, and get them in that place.

It's not enough to get the right people on the bus, you've got to get them in the right seats.
