Find a good archery shop or Cabela's and talk to them about fitting the bow to you for draw length draw weight arrow length and weight then they can recommend a bow in your price range and what fits you you will have a lot more fun if you have the correct how to shoot with I hunt and shoot for fun love it

Thanks, I enjoy the idea of being able to go in my backyard and shoot to relieve stress which I cant do with my firearms so bows seem like a good fit.

SPC David Willis it's a lot of fun and theirs so many types targets and competitions you can get into I've been shooting for years and I love it. I won't recommend a bow because like I said before their are so many factors that play into choosing a bow but I'm sure you will be able to find one where are you located

Based on this question being 2 months old i am behind the curve hear. There are some really great people doing YouTube videos that will answer many of your beginning questions. As to gear first you will need to decide if you want to shoot a Long Bow, Re curve or a Compound Bow. All have there strengths and weakness. Have you looked into a local archery club? Are there any places local to you that offer classes?

Im looking to get into bow shooting as a hobby, not hunting or anything. Any tips, advice or recommendations for solid bows or anything else?

I’ve wanted to get into bow hunting for years as well. Only having 1 week of gun season here in Ohio makes it tough because something always happens and I miss 3-4 days of it each year. I also just like the idea of having another excuse over several months to go sit in the woods haha. I’m going to definitely follow this thread.

Yea it does open up way more hunting opportunities as well. I like how quick and easy it would be to have a day of shooting. Grab a target and find a field and you're good. Way less complicated for someone like me living in the suburbs to do than shoot guns haha.

I understand totally. I used to belong to a few gun clubs back around 2011 before I moved for work. It was great to be able to go shoot pistol and 3 gun competitions on a weekend and if I wanted to shoot some plate racks I was just a short drive from a quiet range. Unfortunately now two clubs have shut down and the closest is over an hour away. I too think being able to shoot bow in my backyard in the burbs would help with stress relief! SPC David Willis
