i didn't make commandant or any honors in alc. However, that don't bother me. I am curious I got superior on my 1059. Is that the normal thing for a ncoes? Or is that good?

Yes, a superior can be given and it can be good. However it's just like NCOERs it must be supported in the statement, both quantifiable and of high quality. At the NCOA I facilitated at, you can have all superiors except in leadership and not get Commandant's list. Remember, the 1059 is a development tool, as well as an evaluation tool. Good job!

Obtaining a superior rating on your 1059 can never be a bad thing, if that's what you want to hear. What areas did you obtain a superior rating in? If I had to pick one area to earn a superior rating in above all others, it would be in leadership.

It is normal if you displayed superior results. The honors can only be the top 20% of each class. That doesn't mean you didn't achieve superior results.

Is a Superior Rating appropriate on my 1059 from ALC?

What area were you superior in?
You were likely observed as doing well in a particular area.
Leadership, for example usually is graded by how you interact with your peers.

You could very well be reassured superior without making commandants list or honors. Commandants list is the top 10%, a mere .5% could have bumped you. I had classes where a 95% wouldn't make the list.

1SG (Join to see) - Not to contradict what your saying, Top, but commandant ' list is based on your grade. For a technical job, the classes are very small and the grades are very close. You might have a 97% and not make commadant's list, that doesn't mean that your not on your game and deserve superior ratings. Not so unusual.

If he/she is still available ask your SGL what combination of grades make up your Leadership block. All this is black and white in the Course Management Plan (CMP) for each specific NCOES course above WLC.

Who cares you didn't make Commandant's List or Honor Grad? The instructors were obviously impressed enough with your performance (hint - read the bullet comments) that you got a superior rating. Take that ball and run with it.

SFC (Join to see) - I'd go one further than my previous post and say those superiors will carry more weight on your next board than making Honor Grad or Commandant's List. Two reasons: (1) YOU know - as will most competent board members - that your focus was on team cohesion, not the self-centered bs we all see, and (2) your maturity is something we don't see much of these days and is something the Army would do well to keep. Do me a favor though, and don't go changing hat sizes, ok?

having a superior in leadership is the best area to be recognized. As an NCO you always want to strive for excellence in LDRSHP, and TRNG. Good job keep up the good work as a leader. LEAD FOLLOW or get the Hell out the way

You can get superior and not make commandants list. The superior rating just means your gpa was above 90.0. The commandants list is only for the top 20% of the class.

It is good! If your ALC class was bigger you would have made commandants list. I have seen students miss commandants list by 0.1%, any superior rating is a good thing.

It's perfectly fine. Superior is not just given. I gave it when warranted.

You should write them and have them change it to sat, or un sat instead. would be great for your career.

Hahaha, I already did. Told them that they messed it up and they need to let hrc know that it won't happen again.

I got all superior straight down the list and had the highest GPA in my ALC class and didn't get selected for commandants list or DHG. They never gave me a reason, but everyone in the class was just as confused as I was as to why I didn't get selected. But, in the end, a superior 1059 is what matters.
