Is anyone else getting pissed off the world is standing by as ISIS is running around killing people and destroys history?

Am I pissed? Hell yeah. Do I know what to do about it? Hell no.

In an ideal world, we could just blow in, kill Daesh and go home with everyone happier and the world safer.

In the real world, we'd come in and reduce Daesh as a ruling force but get mired down trying to stamp out a foe that melts into a population that is terrified of them but has no confidence we can protect them. We would then face various sectarian and tribal insurgents that think the whole thing is a conspiracy to take over their territory. All the while, we'd spend ourselves into oblivion and add many more Americans to the list of casualties in a war that never should have been. After which, some other group would rise out of the ashes and we'd get to follow the shampoo bottle: Rinse, Repeat.

Point well made. But who, in the region, do you believe is in the best position to take them on? Saudi would have to hire an army and so would Qatar. The Iraqi's will not, and can not, partially because we (the U.S.) was pulled out prematurely.

MSgt Donald G. - They all have armies. Their inability or unwillingness to field them should not be our problem. At some point, we have to expect other countries to put on their big boy pants and take care of their own problems without Big Daddy Sam coming in to save the day.

I know that's a popular refrain, but Iraq's failures have nothing to do with whether we had gone or stayed. It has everything to do with the Sykes–Picot Agreement. If the last 100 years of Iraqi history have taught us anything, its that sectarian warfare is only punctuated by pauses to kill outside invaders. At best, we could have kept things mollified a little longer at great personal costs, but that was about it.

MSgt Donald G. - I haven't forgotten. I'm just reminded of my now-former brother-in-law. Raging alcoholic. Kept making bad decisions because his parents always shielded him from the worst of the consequences. He lost his family, his job, everything because his mommy couldn't bear to see her son spend a couple weeks on the streets or go hungry for a bit. I think the wake up call finally happened when my sister dropped the divorce papers on his lap after a couple of years of giving him time to get sober. By then, it was too late for everyone.

The ME is kind of like that right now. Yes, there are reasons we should be involved, but it seems like everyone thinks that if they just hold out long enough, we'll take care of the problem for them. I think they need to realize that isn't going to happen before real change actually happens.

Yes, and that's doing wonders. ISIS has nearly tripled in numbers since we began the drone strikes, they've spread to at least 5x different countries now, and we haven't even driven them out of Al-Raqqah (Syria.)
