Is burning the American flag disrespectful to the people who fight or fought in the U.S. military?

Cpl Joshua Caldwell Although, I agree with you we can't punch or fight every person who chooses to express a point with this action.

But I sure as hell can try.
I have always been told that I can't and have constantly shown them different.

SFC Stephen King --- PO3 (Join to see) beat me to the punch on this reply. I dont see it as fighting, I see it as correcting a defect in their upbringing. I am fixing something that their parents screwed up. I think of it as a public service.

No. But it is odd how so many veterans who decry "political correctness" and claim to espouse free speech seem to want to make an exception for political speech that goes against their pet rock. I served in support of the values of our country not a flag. If some people believe that the actions of our government are contrary to those values, then by all means they have the right to burn the flag to express that whenever I read a vet saying something like "they have the right,but..." And say they would somehow intervene physically just means to me they really aren't behind the right in the first place.
Look at the thread about the violence that happend at Berkley about the white supremicist speaker. Everyone said "leftie political correctness! We must allow free speech even if we disagree!" And I agree with that, the violence was uncalled for. but physically intervening at a flag burning isn't heroic or patriotic, it's the same as the violent protesters at Berkley--it's using force to stop political speech you don't agree with
