I am currently trying to decide if I want to enroll into the Green to Gold Program or go OCS. I have enough credits now to do the Green to Gold Program. It will be another 1 1/2 before I can attend OCS because I don’t have my Bachelors degree yet. The packets for Green to Gold selection are due 28 NOV 19. I am 28 years old and will be 29 in December. I believe I meet all age requirements for both. My question is: Which route is best to go? I know I want to commission but I can’t decide if I want to go right now Into the Green to Gold Program or just wait to go OCS. Thank you for help in advance.

I actually think you will be better off in GTG. I already had a degree, which is why I went OCS from enlisted but having worked with the ROTC at K State and seen how the cadets live, I think the ROTC provides a quality transition to the officer corps and you still can live a life. I think OCS is perfect for people like me but if you don’t have your degree yet, this works better.

Thank you for your advice Sir. Looks like G2G is the best option for me. I agree with you about ROTC providing a quality transition to officer. It’s worth giving G2G a shot.

Hey sir, I’m active enlisted. I have a 4 year degree and want to go ocs. I have the checklist and I have the 2020 milper message for ocs. My question is how do I find DA 6285 form for commission reviewer. Can you tell me what steps you’ve taken to prepare your packet and what it needs.

Not sure why this form is not listed on APD, but this should be the form you need for your structured interview. I took a look at the MILPER you spoke of, and they made some changes since I applied in 2007. Back then, there was a board conducted by your MSC staff and each MSC commander had x number of slots he could recommend for OCS. But really the assembly of your packet is straightforward. The advice I usually give people is it is your career. You may have to take some risks with getting your packet up. For whatever reason, my packet used to stall at battalion and sit there for days before it was returned to me for some silly correction. Then I would put it back in the chain just to get it back two weeks later with another silly correction. Eventually, I went and took it personally to the battalion commander's office. I actually caught him coming in just after I arrived asking for an open door session. He signed it and handed it directly to me. Then I personally walked it around third corps and made a final submission to G1. I had my board a month later and it was up for submission. I also called accessions to make sure they got it from III Corps. My actions led to some consequences but my packet made it where it needed to go. BLUF, it's your career, and for some reason the bureaucracy in things like this can be your enemy.

Definitely GTG. You will get paid your salary and go to school. That is an incredible deal. OCS has more risk because you might not be accepted.

Thank you Sir! Reading all of these comments. I’ve been given some great advice to include yours. I did choose the Active duty Option for my G2G packet. It best suits my family, finances and circumstances.

The answer is yes. I am a basic branch MI officer. Most people seem to want MI, so you need to be high on the OML to increase the probability of getting the branch you want at branch time. For OCS, this means great PT scores, great academics, good scores for your leadership, everything. For GTG, your grades need to be great, excellent PT scores, and good leadership evaluations from your cadre. Typically your class will get maybe 2-4 MI slots and there will be 10-20 folks wanting them.

Would recommend GTG. I think with the changes in branching, you'll have better branch options. Provided you can support yourself while there, I think GTG would allow you to focus on your last year's in college and nail down the degree. I think if you wait for OCS there is a higher likelihood of other life events intervening.

I appreciate this great advice Sir! Thanks for the rapid response to my question on here. G2G active duty option is the path I’m choosing. I’m going to strongly work on my packet for the weeks to come, before the deadline approaching. I don’t want to miss out on this incredible opportunity. I’ve been trying to finish school for a long time now and this will definitely allow me to finish strong this time. Thanks again!
